About
Keep every original on a drive you own.
SalvaFoto copies the photos and videos in Apple Photos — HEIC, RAW, Live Photos, edits and video — to an external SSD, flash drive or SD card, byte for byte, without re-encoding. On a Mac, a network share or a disk image works too. No cloud, no account, nothing uploaded.
What you get
Adds only what is new. Each file is fingerprinted, so nothing is copied twice.
Plain folders by year and month. Any computer can open them, without SalvaFoto.
Verifies the archive against checksums, not just file names. The full check uses SHA-256.
Restores into Photos without duplicating what is already there. By default a device brings back only what it put into the archive.
Free Up Space removes from the device only items whose archived copy is proven complete: checksum, size, and companion files (Live Photo video and the edited version). Files on the drive are left untouched. In Photos the items go to Recently Deleted and are erased after 30 days. Favourites can stay on the device.
One drive for iPhone and Mac. Each device keeps its own copy, and the Archive shows it first; the other device's copy is one tap away. If the drive already holds an archive from the other device, SalvaFoto matches the files and does not copy them again.
Progress on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while a copy runs.
Free for an archive of up to 500 photos and videos. The full version is a one-time purchase that removes the limit on iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple ID. No subscription, no ads.
Optional: copy new items when the archive drive is connected. Adding only — nothing is deleted or overwritten.
How it works
1. Connect a drive and allow access to Photos. On iPhone that means an SSD, a flash drive or an SD card. On a Mac, also a network share or a disk image. The Mac's own disk is not accepted: a copy there is lost with the Mac.
2. SalvaFoto compares the library with the archive and copies only new originals, in their original format.
3. Verify the archive, restore into Photos, or free space on the device once the copies check out.
Who it is for
Anyone who wants the originals on hardware they hold, without a subscription. Photographers keeping RAW and HEIC. Families keeping a disk in a drawer.
On a Mac, an iPhone connected by cable can copy straight to the drive, without using space on the Mac or mixing with the computer’s library.
Privacy
SalvaFoto collects no data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporter, and the app has no servers of its own. Photos move only between your device and the drive you choose.
If the library uses iCloud Photos, Photos may download originals from iCloud while SalvaFoto reads them. That transfer is performed by Apple.
What you need
iPhone and iPad: iOS 17 or later, and an external drive (USB-C or Lightning flash drive, SSD, or SD card reader). In the Files picker, open Locations and choose the drive. Internal storage is not accepted: a copy that lives on the same phone does not protect you if the phone is lost.
Mac: macOS 14 or later, and an external drive, a network share or a disk image.
Format the drive as APFS or exFAT. FAT32 cannot write files larger than 4 GB, which often includes 4K video.
Full Access to Photos is required to copy the whole library. With Selected Photos the app sees only the items you picked.
Free for an archive of up to 500 items; the full version is a one-time in-app purchase. There is no subscription.
