Just one experience
Initially, I was excited to start using the save a bite app. My first experience was with a deli in Waikiki. My order was placed early in the morning and included a tip as well. When I arrived and showed my receipt for pickup, the employee appeared to not know about save a bite. She said “What is it you want? Do you want to order something?” It got really awkward and weird fast. Like I was panhandling or something. I ended up saying that it isn’t a big thing and that I’d stop by tomorrow. Oddly, the employee said that they’d have something then. So, my experience with this app was abysmal. Delete. I’m out eleven bucks and could use a drink.

Great app! But would love to see additional features!
I’ve had this app downloaded for a couple of months now, and have purchased a few boxes. I love the idea of reducing food waste and saving money at the same time! My experience with pickup, food quality and quantity has been excellent. I am also impressed with the variety of business that are participating.
I do, however feel that some additional features could make the user experience even better:
-Information on each business’ page showing when and how many boxes sold in a given day (so people who have been unable to get bags from certain restaurants can better plan to reserve boxes in the future)
-Notifications of when boxes become available (which will make it easier for customers to know boxes are available for sale and to give businesses a better chance of selling all their boxes)

Love the App but it needs QOL improvements
So I love the concept and the app itself. I like how it has more local participating restaurants than Too Good to Go. But there are a bunch of improvements that the app really needs.
First, as another reviewer mentioned, push notifications need to be fixed. Getting a notification when a mystery box is available (or even a box from a business on your favorites list) would be much more pleasant than the current alternative of refreshing the app every 5 minutes. Currently push notifications only tell you when a business marks your order as complete, which is next to useless since you will already have the food in hand when you get that notification.
Second, it would be great if it can be shown when boxes were last offered by each business on their profile page. Or if it were possible to sort the business by most recently offered on the home page. This would make it easy to check if you missed the daily offering for a business you like (especially if push notifications aren’t available).
Third, it would be very useful to have ratings and reviews for each business visible on their profile page. There’s currently an option to leave feedback on each of your orders, but as far as I’m aware, this feature does nothing and the feedback isn’t posted anywhere. If the feedback were to be publicly visible, it would help customers make decisions about which businesses are worth checking out and it would help to hold businesses accountable and keep them from taking advantage of this system.
On that note, I hope that Save a Bite is taking an active role in ensuring that businesses are following their guidelines and terms and conditions if they are not going to put the power in the customers’ hands in the form of feedback and reviews. I’ve placed a handful of orders and I’ve already run into issues with businesses not understanding the pricing/value scheme of the mystery boxes. For example, medium sized boxes cost $10 and are supposed to contain $30 worth of product. However, a certain cookie store only gave me $10 worth of product in a medium mystery box, and stated that I got $10 worth of product because I only paid $10 for the box when I questioned it.

Incredible value!!
I love this app. It’s so fun, good for the planet, and helps save money!!!
Killer concept — needs push notifications
Such a great concept and love the idea of getting to try new places while also reducing waste. Only wish the notifications worked as it’s hard to know when boxes drop otherwise.
Amazing Sustainable Idea
Love this app which helps support local businesses with decreasing the amount of food waste. Very affordable & convenient to pick up food.
Really cool
Love the concept. Super easy and supporting local businesses 🤙
New and Exciting
I love the idea of saving money and saving food that would go to waste otherwise. The app is really easy to use, and the customer support is very responsive. I’ve only tried one, but I feel like the price I paid is well worth the amount of goodies I received. Can’t wait for my next surprise bag!
Trying New Foods!
Such a cool idea! I got to try a new restaurant down the street that I didn’t even know was over there! Can’t wait to go back!
Not only that, food cost a lot in Hawaii so this is a great way for me to still try new foods!
