Response from developer
Update on the previous response: We have recently updated the app to better inform new members of the benefits and features of christmas club before starting the free 30-day trial. We're making progress and plan to make more to make the onboarding better for users. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope it's enough to improve your app store rating. Again we still have more progress ahead! ========== Hi fellow redditor :), I understand that you'd like to know what you are getting before going through the commitment of linking your bank account. To be honest this is a tough one that we're trying to find the best approach for. So thank you for leaving this review! Here's out perspective: We strongly believe that budgeting works best when it's simple and automatic, and linking a bank account is key to making that happen. When a new member links their checking account in onboarding, it enables us to create your categories, fund your categories and give you a walk through of how christmas club works with your real-time balances. And all of that in under a couple of minutes. Simple and automatic is a primary value of the christmas club app. Unfortunately, the value of the app is not the same without a linked bank account. Without a linked bank, creating a budget and tracking takes a lot more effort and a lot more time. However, If you are interested, we also have a free (printable & ipad friendly) workbook that you can download to start a budget using the christmas club method. Here is the link: https://www.getchristmasclub.com/budgeting-workbook One last note: Linking your bank is safe and private. Safe: We'll never transfer money from your linked account. We partner with Plaid to only read balances and transactions. We can't touch your money. Private: All transactions are encrypted, so we can't see what you're spending your money on, only you can. It's frankly none of our business. Thank you again. We welcome all feedback, and we hope that you give christmas club another shot. Also feel free to contact more about this at support@getchristmasclub.com or on our subreddit reddit.com/r/christmasclub
The budgeting app that finally worked for me
Eventually, I give up on the app, telling myself that I just don't have the discipline to stick with a budget. But deep down, I know that it's not my lack of discipline that's the problem. It's the fact that these apps are too complicated and time-consuming to use on a daily basis.
That's why I was so excited to discover Christmas Club, an app that uses a different approach to budgeting called "working backwards budgeting.” Instead of focusing on cutting back spending or managing dozens of budget categories, you start by identifying what's important to you and creating a few categories to represent those priorities. Then, you fund those categories first every payday.
This simple, but powerful approach has been a game-changer for me. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the constant need to input every transaction, I can focus on my priorities and make sure they are funded first. And because I'm not constantly trying to micromanage every penny I spend, it's much easier for me to say no to spending on things that aren't important to me.
In the past, I would have given up on a budgeting app by now, but with Christmas Club, I've been able to stick with it and see real progress in my financial goals. I've been able to regularly set and meet savings goals, build a three-month safety net, and even handle a surprise expense without feeling set back.
If you're like me and have struggled to stick with other budgeting apps, I highly recommend giving Christmas Club a try. The first 30 days are free, so you have nothing to lose. And with its user-friendly approach to budgeting, you may finally find the financial peace of mind you've been looking for.
