FAQ
What is SeaIce?
SeaIce is an application developed at the University of Leeds that allows users to visualize and interact with sea ice thickness and extent data from the European Space Agency's CryoSat Mission. It also enables users to track their routes in the Arctic and learn about polar research.
What kind of data does SeaIce provide?
SeaIce provides access to CryoSat's historic record of Arctic ice extent and thickness from 2010 to the present day, presented through detailed maps and charts optimized for mobile devices.
Can SeaIce be used offline?
While the app allows you to record your route in real-time using GPS, processing this data with satellite ice information requires a stable internet connection. Learning resources within the app may also require connectivity.
How does SeaIce help researchers?
Users can optionally share their recorded Arctic routes with the developers. This data helps researchers identify popular areas and understand their impact on the surrounding Arctic environment.
What educational content is available in SeaIce?
The 'Learn More' section provides information about the technology and science behind calculating Arctic sea ice extent and thickness, as well as details on cutting-edge research. It includes links to resources from CPOM, ESA, and their partners.
Does SeaIce have ads?
No, SeaIce does not contain advertisements. It is a free application developed by the University of Leeds.
What devices is SeaIce compatible with?
