Poor detail on charts

I’m very disappointed with the detail on the charts. There is no indication of reefs and only a rough guide to the sea floor. I wanted to use this to guide me to possible fishing locations, but the lack of detail makes it very difficult.

Response from developer

Hi, We are sorry to hear that our charts do not meet your fishing needs. Our charts contain all the detailed navigation information that the UKHO Admiralty provides. This does include the type of seabed , sandy , mud, rocky etc. for anchoring. There are depth contours and spot depths which might help identify reefs but unless they are a hazard to navigation they will not be explicitly marked. Thanks for trying SeaNav and if you have any further questions please email us at help@pocketmariner.com Best regards Steve

Excellent apps. Great value

Used all 3 last weekend, highly recommend.

Response from developer

Thank you very much for your kind feedback. Good feedback keeps us going.

Not happy

When you pay £20 pounds for something that telling you that the 10 foot of water that I am looking at is in the Submarine training exercise area I doubt it reliability I am deeply disappointed and wished I had paid a bit more for a more reliable one

Response from developer

We have checked and the area is for robot submarine testing and is an officially designated area according to the Admiralty. SeaNav’s data is directly derived from the official data.

Great app

I had a problem with my wifi hotspot and gps app. This was sorted quickly with email support . My settings were set incorrectly.
I use the poi’s to mark my fishing spots or use as way points with the sail to option.
For longer passages I create routes.
I also use Boat Beacon which is linked to this app, shows AIS ships and positions in a camera view around your position

Many positive points Thanks SeaNav

Sea Nav

Cannot get AIS information on Sea Nav despite having both Sea Nav and Boat Beacon Apps. Most inconvenient having to switch between the two for AIS Info, and using Boat Beacon gives no chart detail.

Response from developer

Hi, please contact us at help@pocketmariner.com so we can help get the AIS working for you.

NOT HAPPY

If your not a real Seaman and think this app is appropriate good for you!! Thanks to the good reveiws im now £30 out of pocket and would even hazard a guess at the staff and close equatances have all written a gleaming review each!!!

Firstly as said previously. Depths and contours lack detail even though I made it slightly better after removing layers.

It’s slow and doesn’t even load the last place you were looking at only seconds before.

If your a fisherman or something equivalent and wish to have marked strings of pots or even add your own way pointed course you can’t!!

The one in the pictures has been saved on the app to look at but you can’t use it.

The majority of the apps time is spent trying to sell you charts or extensions of their own product.

Only the yachts and dinghy idiots that don’t respect the sea and it’s dangers would use such a clueless app. And I wouldn’t be suprised if they even get mentioned in maritime enquiries following the onslaught of bad seaman ship to follow this apps use.

Response from developer

Sorry to hear you are not happy but disappointed that you should then cast false and unsubstantiated assertions at us over our integrity and reviews. Maybe you could have contacted us first via the help links in SeaNav - help@pocketmariner.com. SeaNav has much higher resolution than other popular apps which used to slow it down a bit on older devices but now has much faster drawing on the newer iOS devices. SeaNav does do all the other things you say it can’t like Points of Interest for fishing spots etc.

Used on every sail - Keeps getting better

This app is great. Buy it! Actually I recommend buying the marine bundle which includes Seanav, Boat Beacon & CompassEye.

This app was great 3 years ago when I first started using it and is even better now. I use it when I crew on a racing yacht - just open and click on the go sailing icon. The track and every tack taken are all recorded for later review. I also use it to plan routes for cruising and for navigation while cruising.

It is very robust and stable with my iphone7 and Apple Watch (It is amazing how much useful information is clearly displayed on such a small screen). I find the 2nd (waypoint) screen on the watch the most useful. For e.g just recently I was on a long 30nm tack. I set the auto tiller to the next waypoint bearing (BWP) shown on the watch. With the occasional tilt of the wrist I could check VMG and XTE, and tweak the bearing on the autotiller to get the XTE back to 0nm. My track followed my planned route almost exactly. Very efficient!

Pocket mariner are very innovative and responsive to feedback. Their apps integrate really well with each other and are iOS family shareable. I (we) now have all their apps!

Superb app, had some trouble installing but customers service by email was quick and helpful.

Seanav

When it works...it appears to be very good. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work very often. I spend most of my time pressing the screen and it then takes me to somewhere I didn't want to go.

Excellent customer support

Seanav is a very reasonably priced and competent programme. The email based support is excellent.

A very good budget nav app

I'm a big fan of this app it does all the basic tasks I need it to. I think there could be some chart accuracy improvements and the ability to drop in a waypoint on the vessels current position MOB style also adding new waypoints numerically easily. But on the whole it's a lot of app for the money (pay once for iPhone and iPad)

Charts

I have been unfortunate to purchase the charts, of little use, not as advertised. Unfortunately they will not allow my review to be shown

Great app and great support

Having done a fair bit of research I bought Seanav to run on my wifi only iPad mini, using my iPhone to supply the GPS feed (using the gps2ip app). This worked perfectly first time out, but then the next time I came to use it i just couldn't get it to work and had no idea why. Not sure what to expect, I contacted the Seanav team with my problem through the email support link within the app. The response and support back I received was excellent and too my great relief they resolved the problem for me (there was a time difference between the clocks in my iPhone and iPad). It is reassuring to know that not only is your money buying a great app, but also great support too.

Fantastic

As a small boat user, I find this app essential. It has all the detail and features I need, plus the entire UK&ROI interactive charts included in the price. Don't let the Navionics fans put you off, unless you really enjoy spending mucho money on Navionics charts and add-ons, that is. As for detail, this app shows not only the marina I berth at, but the very finger berth I tie up to(!) If you were to hold a gun to my head, and insist that I find fault, I would only say this.... there is no 'night mode' to the display, and in order to dim the screen when night cruising you must quit the app and go to the iPad settings. No biggie, really. Other than that, I am super-impressed. Who even BUYS a chart plotter these days? Hundreds of quid on a one-trick pony, when this app running on your iPad allows you to check your email, fill in your log, and write an app review, all in one place.....AND navigate your way.

Great app, but with a leaning curve

The charts look great, and all the features look to be there, but do be warned that it takes a bit of playing with (and patience!) to get your head around it - definitely worth the effort though.

That said, given the price and that it's a dual iPad-iphone app, I'd still recommend it over navionics (which makes you buy both separately).

Also highly recommend the support the developers provide - I pinged them a quick question and got a really good response.

Great app

This is a great app that is cost-effective and it does what it says on the tin.

Twenty first century navigation!

I just returned from a ten day sailing trip to Poole from Newhaven. I visited the creeks and harbours of the Solent on the way. I ran Seanav and Boat Beacon all the way. Terrific value, stable and accurate, futuristic, imaginative and totally connected, with five star support when I needed it. Monty
