Good & Bad
I have only played with the iOS app so far I will take a look at the Android app if they plan to offer a fdroid repo or direct apk download from the website in the future. So, first with the not so good. The app provides protection for data in transit only. It does not provide for any protection of data at rest on the local device. So if your threat model is only limited to data being intercepted in transit or while at rest in the cloud then this provides good measure of protection. If your threat model includes a local physical attack on your phone then this app provides zero additional protection. Remember, all iOS data on devices AFU state (even locked) are in decrypted state so app level protection is very important. Also, on this note from what I can tell the app uses default iOS data protection classes. Onto the good - the app sign up process is amazing. No username, no password, no email. This is how it should be. Very thoughtful and an area that it improves greatly over standard notes which is the app I currently use. However, unlike Standard Notes which does provide 360 data protection (at rest and in transit) this app only provides 180 protection so it is a no go for me.
