Wrong answer key on a food safety exam
Question 8 asked which temperature range promotes the fastest bacterial growth. The app marked "Below 41°F" as correct and marked the danger zone as wrong. The explanation underneath described the danger zone.
Question 9 asked how to prevent seafood toxins from causing illness. The app marked "Handwashing throughout the day" as correct and marked "Purchasing seafood from approved, reputable suppliers" as wrong. The explanation said toxins cannot be destroyed by cooking and that buying from reputable suppliers keeps seafood safe.
Question 10 asked how to store chemicals to prevent contamination. The app marked "Above food storage areas" as correct and marked "Away from prep areas and food" as wrong. The explanation said chemicals must be stored away from food and prep areas. Storing chemicals above food is a real safety violation.
This matters because people use this app to learn food safety rules, and the mistakes teach the opposite of what is correct. Anyone who trusts the green checkmark will memorize unsafe practices and could fail the real exam. The errors also make my score meaningless, since correct answers are counted as wrong.
If the answer key is this unreliable in the first 10 of 150 questions, I cannot trust the rest. I will be switching to the official ServSafe practice materials. I would reconsider this rating only if the whole question bank is reviewed against the textbook it cites.
