They RAISED the price while calling it a “launch price” - Deceptive Dark Marketing tactics

This app used to be $10 but after an Update they made it “Freemium” which I was initially happy to see but then I saw they TRIPLED the Lifetime price to $30, added an entire yearly subscription $20/year that is somehow “Most popular” even tho it never existed before the update so that’s impossible, and they are acting like the new higher price is the “launch price.”

Let me be clear: This app has been out for at least a YEAR. This app did NOT “just launch” so that is a LIE to call $30 a launch price. The current offering is NOT the launch price. The Launch price WAS $10. You, the developers, just tripled the price and you’re LYING about it hoping nobody notices.

This is a Dark Marketing tactic. You are outright lying to consumers by pretending this new tripled $30 price point is a somehow a “launch discount” or deal before you raise it AGAIN effectively quadrupling the price to $40. You are also being dishonest acting like the $20/year subscription is “Most Popular” even though you literally just added it so there’s 0% chance it’s most popular.

Maybe you thought nobody would notice your sneaky price increases disguised as a discount but nope I did! Try being HONEST with the way you portray your pricing because LYING to consumers has consequences. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for writing this. I want to be straight with you. The old $10 was a paid-upfront download. You had to buy the app before you could try it. That price was low on purpose: ShadowTerm was new, unknown, and still rough. A one-time $10 made sense when the app was finding its feet. It’s in a different place now. The terminal is reliable, it’s been through a lot of real use, and the work to keep it that way is ongoing (iOS changes, SSH, sync, new features). In 3.7 we made the app free to download: full terminal, one saved host, no time limit. Premium is optional and covers the extra features (unlimited hosts, SFTP, monitoring, AI helper, sync, and so on). If you bought ShadowTerm before this change, you already have every premium feature for life. Restore Purchases if anything looks locked. You will not be asked to pay again. You’re right that “launch price” was a bad label. The app has been out for a long time. $29.99 is the current lifetime price for the new premium unlock, not a launch discount on a new app. I’ll take that wording off. “Most Popular” on the yearly plan is also just a highlight, not a claim about sales. I’ll remove that too. If you want lifetime at the old-school one-time price, use code AIHACKER in the app (Paywall or Settings → Redeem Code). That unlocks Lifetime for $19.99. If you already paid under the old model and something is wrong, email me from Settings → Support and I’ll fix it personally.

Not working as expected

I expect that ShadowTerm can connect to the remote linux server. Created a Host -> not connecting. But QuickConnect -> connect (time to time). Strange and buggy Application. Do not suggest

Great with a few annoyances

Pretty much perfect besides 1: reiteration of the ToS every run, 2: sometimes on a fresh start it will load a blank screen and I’ll have to close and reopen to get it to correctly load, 3: it doesn’t remember selecting custom keyboard after closing the application and starting it again. After opening, you have to go to settings > customize keyboard > custom before connecting to a host every time.

All in all these are minor annoyances/bugs, and the application is great with an active developer. My suggestion is adding an option to explicitly agree to the ToS in perpetuity unless it changes, then reiterate. And hopefully fix the other bugs. 👍👍

Thanks for reporting this! We've shipped a fix. Grab the latest version and let us know if everything is working as expected.

Awesome Structure, Immediate Bug

The app itself is slick, intuitive, and honestly one of the best structured options I’ve ever seen for iPad. Only issue is that on the new iPad OS 26, attempting to connect to anything via SSH is giving “NIOSSH ERROR 1.” Only other current issue is the hamburger menu overlapping with the traffic lights on the new windows system, but both are easily resolvable and I’m just hoping they come soon ^ - ^

This issue is fixed in the latest release. Update to the newest version and give it another shot!

Awesome

Respect for not requiring a subscription or having a crazy price. The application works very well and is super convenient. Easily worth the money, especially since no extra data is being collected!

No subscription

Nice to see an app that you can pay for once. Wish the AppStore offered paid upgrade options so the user was in control of when they felt an upgrade was warranted. Especially for something I’ll infrequently use. $70/yr for an ssh client is just insane.
