About
Shroud is a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet that lets you share one address everywhere, while every payment you receive lands at a new address that no one else can link to you.
ONE ADDRESS, PRIVATE PAYMENTS
With an ordinary Bitcoin address, anyone you share it with can see every payment made to it, and reusing it ties your payments together. Shroud's private address is different. Post it on your website, put it on an invoice or give it to everyone you know: each sender pays you at a fresh address that only you can find, and no one watching the blockchain can connect those payments to your address or to each other. This is on by default, with nothing to set up.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Receive with one reusable private address, shared as a QR code
• Receive at a standard Bitcoin address from wallets that can't pay a private address yet
• Send to private addresses and to regular Bitcoin addresses
• Choose your fee before you send
• Save the people you pay as contacts
• Track an incoming payment by its transaction ID
• Restore a wallet from its recovery phrase, with a start date so scanning only covers the blocks that matter
• See amounts in BTC or sats, and in more than 60 local currencies
• Practice on signet with test coins before using real bitcoin
PRIVACY BY DESIGN
• Shroud scans for your payments on your phone. Its indexer only serves block data and never learns your addresses or keys.
• Connect through Tor with a Tor app such as Orbot, and use Tor-only mode to block connections whenever Tor isn't running.
• Use your own Electrum server, including a .onion server over Tor.
• No account, no email address, no phone number. No ads and no analytics.
• Crash reports are optional (Settings → General → Privacy), and Shroud removes transaction IDs, addresses and keys from its error messages before sending them.
YOUR KEYS, YOUR BITCOIN
• Your recovery phrase and keys never leave your phone. They're kept in its secure storage.
• Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint.
• Your recovery phrase screens are protected from screenshots and screen recording.
• We can't see your balance, move your funds or recover your wallet. Write down your recovery phrase and keep it somewhere safe: it's the only way to restore your wallet.
OPEN STANDARD, OPEN SOURCE
Shroud's private addresses use Silent Payments (BIP 352), an open Bitcoin standard that other wallets are adopting; in the app they're on the Silent Payments tab. Shroud is open source under the MIT license: read the code at github.com/CypherCommons/shroud.
Shroud is new software. Start with small amounts while you get to know it.
