About

Introducing Shrutisangamam, a versatile Shruti Box designed specifically for Carnatic music enthusiasts. This app serves as a valuable tool for both practice and performance by generating drone sounds. You have the flexibility to choose your base Shruti (pitch) from a range of 1 to 7 (encompassing C3 to B3). Additionally, this app allows you to select which Swaras (notes) you'd like to include, offering options such as Sa, Pa or Ma, and Ṡa. This app offers a fine-tuning feature for adjusting the base Shruti, ideal for wind instruments with fixed, unalterable pitches, enhancing your overall musical experience. Choose an instrument voice: Synth Harmonium, Single Free Reed Instrument, Antique ShrutiBox, or Melodica. Pick a theme that suits your practice space—from Light and Warm to Dark, AMOLED, Saffron, Maroon, Indigo, and more. Sthayi lets you set the octave of the base Sa—Mandra (Low), Madhya (Middle), or Tara (High). Tone shape lets you sculpt the Synth Harmonium voice across eighteen harmonic partials. Overall volume controls the speaker level. Advanced mix lets you balance Sa, Ma or Pa, and Ṡa individually so each drone voice sits where you want it. A bellows effect gently rises and falls like a hand-pumped box, so the drone breathes instead of sitting flat. You can leave pitch steady, or turn on a slight pitch with bellows (up to about 10 cents) so the tone moves a little with each pump. Turn bellows off when you want a steady drone. For optimal audio quality, we recommend using an external speaker to experience the full spectrum of harmonics. This app is available for iPhone and iPad. The tones are computationally generated, which can be resource-intensive. As a result, compatibility may vary depending on the hardware and software limitations of your device. We appreciate your interest in our app and apologise if it doesn't function as expected on your specific device.
