Sorely Disappointed
I had hoped that perhaps all the negative reviews were from a previous version or at least user error. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. This app is frustrating and inconsistent. At times, the SEDA video option is highlighted on a particular lesson, which indicates there is a video available for viewing, and then 5 minutes later it disappears. Same for the “i” icon. It’s frustrating for my daughter when I give her an assignment and she doesn’t even know what I mean by, “Click the i and you will find a link to more information.” Then I get frustrated because I couldn’t have given clearer instructions, thinking she’s just not wanting to do the assignment. I go to check it, it’s not there. But I know it was there yesterday, so I go check the Teacher Manual on the app on my phone. It’s not there, even though I read from the i icon and watched the SEDA video from the colored leaf icon yesterday. Five minutes later, it goes from being shadowed in gray (indicating no information or video is available for the lesson) to being in color and available! 🤦♀️ Incredibly frustrating and disappointing, especially after a year since the last update. It’s like the developer isn’t even trying to put out a decent product, but is perfectly willing to
continue to charge $7.99/month.
Another flaw I have an issue with is that I never found anything that resembled workbook pages in the student app, which somehow I expected. It’s just the student text that they read from the phone. I know they gave the option to buy the paper version, but I assumed that meant there was also a digital version considering they claim it’s everything you need.
Lastly, I tried logging out and logging back in to hopefully reset and now it’s giving off the error code “Login Error. Error code: 2. Invalid login credentials” even though the password is saved on my iPad, so it’s not me typing them incorrectly.
As a child, I loved learning English/Grammar through the Shurley method. I had high hopes. My daughter did enjoy the first lesson, and so did I, so it’s quite a shame. There’s potential here but it appears the company is just pocketing that $7.99 a month and not putting it toward bettering the user experience.
