i expected it to not work because i refreshed a page and it didn’t go away, but once i did a new search the overview was gone and now im content.

Google sees their users as metrics to be managed. Their AI slop overview is part of this contempt. This is true for most big tech companies including Apple!
Google is using their AI to pull content from sites where they also serve ads. I don't believe the sites get paid for ad impressions when Google does this.
So essentially Google is stealing from the same people they provide ads to in the first place by scraping their sites and vomiting up these disgusting amalgams via Gemini.

I prefer not to be heavily reliant on AI in my every day life. I hope I can block some of the overviews in the subheading questions from search results too !
