About

Sift tells you who in your household can't eat what's in the packet. Scan the barcode and Sift looks up the ingredients. If the database has no list, photograph the back of the packet and Sift reads the printed list itself. Either way, it names the ingredient and the person it's a problem for. BUILT FOR A HOUSEHOLD One phone shops for everybody. Each person has their own allergies and intolerances, and a comparison screen sets several ingredients against the whole family at once. FOOD, COSMETICS AND MEDICINES • Food, including more than 430 E-numbers, each with a plain name • Cosmetics, by their INCI names and CI colour numbers • Medicines IT KNOWS WHAT THINGS ARE MADE OF React to casein? Sift warns you about a packet that only says "milk". YOUR LANGUAGE, TWICE Sift speaks English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish, following your iPhone's language. The ingredients have a language setting of their own. In Settings, choose which of the five languages ingredient names appear in, and which list Sift reads on a label printed in several languages. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account, no server. Your photos, labels and profiles stay on your iPhone. The only thing sent anywhere is the barcode number, to look up the product. What comes back can add an allergen but never remove one. Share profiles with another iPhone over AirDrop. ON-DEVICE INTELLIGENCE Where Apple Intelligence is available, it straightens out a jumbled reading of a label without leaving your iPhone. Translation uses Apple's own Translation framework. Ingredient and product data comes from the Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts communities, under the Open Database License. IMPORTANT — DISCLAIMER AND USE AT YOUR OWN RISK Sift is an information tool only. It does not give medical advice and it is not a food safety device. Sift works by reading printed labels with a camera and matching what it reads against its own ingredient list. Both steps can fail. Text can be misread, blurred, cut off, obscured or missed altogether. A label can itself be wrong, out of date, or changed by the manufacturer since it was printed. Product information supplied by third parties can be incomplete or incorrect. An ingredient Sift does not recognise will not be flagged at all. Sift may therefore report ingredients that are not present and, more seriously, may fail to report ingredients that are. You use Sift entirely at your own risk. Do not rely on it to decide whether a food is safe for you or for anyone else. Always read the packaging itself — the packet in your hand is the last word — and follow the advice of a qualified medical professional about any allergy, intolerance or dietary condition. What's New in Sift Grocery Scanner

1.1

October 14, 2026

SCAN THE BARCODE FIRST A scan now starts at the barcode, and Sift looks the ingredients up for you. A photo of the ingredient list is an optional second step, and Sift asks for one when the database has no list. COMPARE REACTIONS, WHEREVER YOU ARE For a household of two or more, Compare reactions now opens from a button next to the camera on My labels. A label's own screen can also set everything on that packet against everyone, worst first. ASK SIRI "Who is allergic to Dairy in Sift" opens the comparison on that group. "Who is allergic in Sift" asks you which ingredients you mean. It understands all five languages, even mixed together. Settings explains how to make a shorter shortcut. YOUR LANGUAGE FROM THE START Ingredient names now follow your iPhone's language until you choose another in Settings, so a Dutch iPhone reads Dutch from the first scan. RUNS ON iOS 18 Sift now runs on iOS 18 and later. Reading labels with Apple Intelligence still needs iOS 26. SIMPLER AND MORE PRIVATE • Sift no longer asks for your location or records where you bought a label. • The scanned text on a label folds away behind its heading. • Settings is shorter. • My labels scrolls on the first try, and the buttons over the camera respond to every tap.
