About

User instruction: 1. Access the About page via a shake gesture. 2. Advance GMT hand by one hour: single-press Volume Up (when chronograph is not running) 3. Chronograph controls: • Start: single press Volume Down • Rattrapante Split Toggle: Single-press Volume Down (while running) • Flyback Restart: Single-press Volume Up (while running) • Stop + Reset to zero: Double-press Volume Down (when stopped) 4. Switch between calibers Slide the selector beside the movement About Cal. 2601 A design inspired by the timeless craftsmanship of Vallée de Joux. 1. The Pursuit of Precision: Taming the Power The quest for chronometric precision begins with the mastery of energy. In a traditional mechanical movement, the torque from the mainspring diminishes as it unwinds, leading to fluctuations in amplitude and inevitable timing errors. To transcend this inherent physical constraint, Cal. 2601 simulates the prestigious Constant-Force Escapement—a "holy grail" of haute horlogerie. This app presents an intricate visualization of the Buckling Force principle. By harnessing the elastic instability of a microscopic steel filament, the system converts erratic energy into a sequence of uniform, constant pulses. It is more than a feat of mechanical logic; it is a digital tribute to the pinnacle of traditional watchmaking. 2. Technical Insight: The Necessity of Constant Force • The Power Loss Dilemma: A mainspring acts as a decompressing reservoir—torque peaks when fully wound but drops significantly as it nears exhaustion. • Amplitude Fluctuation: This inconsistent energy flow causes the balance wheel's amplitude to vary, compromising isochronism. • The Role of Constant Force: It functions as a secondary regulator, ensuring that the impulse delivered to the escapement remains steady, regardless of the mainspring's state. 3. The Physics of Buckling: Silicon & Steel Filaments Consider a microscopic, flexible filament. When compressed axially, it resists deformation until it reaches a Critical Load. Beyond this point, it undergoes Buckling. The brilliance of this mechanism lies in its constant output: once in a buckled state, the filament exerts a nearly uniform force throughout its motion, independent of input fluctuations. Cal. 2601 simulates this precise physical snap-and-release, providing a perfectly metered pulse to the oscillator. 4. Beyond the Physical Limits While mechanical complexity and material fatigue make it nearly impossible to pair a filament-based constant force escapement with a rotating Tourbillon in a physical movement, digital technology transcends these bounds. In the physical world, the centrifugal forces of rotation would destabilize the delicate buckling motion of the filament. Cal. 2601 achieves a perfect equilibrium where these two complications coexist. This app offers a unique window into a mechanical "impossibility," allowing enthusiasts to experience horological complexity that only digital craftsmanship can authentically simulate. It aims to inspire designers and bring the profound joy of high-end watchmaking to collectors in a boundary-breaking way. About Cal. 2602 5. The Mastery of the Tourbillon While Cal. 2601 challenges the limits of physics, Cal. 2602 returns to the golden age of horology. It features a traditional one-minute Tourbillon—a complication designed to counter the effects of gravity on the escapement. By housing the balance wheel and escapement in a rotating carriage, Cal. 2602 averages out positional errors, ensuring remarkable rate stability.
