Simple Expenses opens on a keypad. Type the amount, tap a category, save. That is the whole app.
No account. No sign-in. Nothing you record is ever sent anywhere — and it still survives a new phone, because you can back it up to your own iCloud Drive.
RECORD IN SECONDS
• The keypad is the first screen — no menu to open, no form to fill in
• The category you used last is already selected, so the usual case is one tap fewer
• Add a note or back-date an entry from the two chips above the keypad
• Home screen quick actions jump straight to Add expense or Add income
A MONTH THAT MATCHES YOUR PAYDAY
• Close the cycle yourself on the day you are paid, whenever that falls
• Whatever is left over is carried into the new cycle for you — and you can type a
different figure if the app has drifted from the cash you actually have
• Forget to close one and it closes itself at the end of the month, so nothing runs on forever
• Every closed cycle keeps its own totals to step back to
SEE WHERE IT WENT
• Entries are grouped by day, each day carrying its own total
• Swipe to delete, with five seconds to undo if you did not mean it
• The cycle summary ranks every category and shows its share of the total
• Step back through earlier cycles from either screen
BACKED UP, NOT LOST
• Turn on automatic backups and pick a folder in iCloud Drive: a fresh copy is written every time you leave the app, and the last seven days are kept
• Save a backup file by hand wherever you like, and restore it in a few taps on a new phone
• No account and no server of ours — the file lives where you put it
LOCK WITH FACE ID
• Turn it on in Settings: the app asks every time it opens, and hides your figures in the app switcher
• Your phone's passcode always works if your face is not recognised
MAKE IT YOURS
• Create, rename, reorder and hide categories, each with its own emoji and colour
• Hiding a category keeps it off the keypad without touching entries you already recorded
• Pick your currency from the full ISO list
• Light, dark, or follow the device
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
There is no network code in this app at all — no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs. Your entries live in a database on your device. The only permission the app can ask for is Face ID, and only once you turn the lock on yourself.
A backup is a file you choose to keep. The app sends it nowhere; if you keep it in iCloud Drive, iCloud Drive is what carries it, not the app.
