No Longer Private (or Simple)

I just erased my data and deleted this app. They presented it as a completely private app less than a year ago. Then they switched it so the privacy practices are among the most invasive out there. These companies have no shame .

OLDER

This was a great app. It is currently awful. The developers lost their vision for the app and is trying to compete with other migraine apps that are full of invasive and fiddle bells, whistles, accounts, etc. I will abandon this as soon as I have the time to find another. What a buggy, buggy mess this has become—it went from a helpful tool to just one more headache in my life.

OLD
I love that this is simple so that when you have a migraine you can just tap it and be done. You can always go in later to edit or add details, but this app respects the pain and time involved in migraine care. I am way too busy for another app full of bells and whistles. I also purchased this because it is not linked to all kinds of data permissions, which is why I freaked out when I thought it was suddenly forcing them. (I was wrong.)

Regarding the “OLD” message:
It turns out it is not forcing us to share health data permissions. The pop-up messaging was unclear and made it seem impossible to access the data without saying yes to this. I was able to “agree” without actually sharing the data, but the message is misleading.

OLD
Suddenly, I cannot access my data after a year of using this app faithfully. I need the data for my accommodations. NO WARNING, NOT NOTICE, Just and update that suddenly requires private health data and a logged in account. I was happy with the app, but now I am furious. Never again will I trust this company. And I was relying on it to fill out my paperwork. Now, I am empty handed.

Response from developer

We're sorry to hear that Simple Migraine Tracker no longer met your needs. We do want to clarify one point for anyone reading this review: privacy remains a core principle of Simple Migraine Tracker. Users own their data, can export or delete it at any time, health integrations are optional, and we do not sell personal or health data. Personal logs remain private to your account, and data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. We believe users should remain in control of their health information and have full visibility into how their data is used. Our goal remains to provide a migraine tracker that is both privacy-focused and simple to use. While the app has grown over time, we remain committed to protecting user privacy, giving users control over their data, and providing tools that help them better understand their migraines. Thank you for having been a user of the app. support@simplemigrainetracker.com

Love it!!!

I’ve tried a few migraine apps and this is the first one I’ve stuck with. It’s easy to log attacks even when I’m not feeling great, and the history actually helps me see patterns.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the kind words! We’re really glad the app has been helping you spot patterns and making tracking easier during tough migraine days. Thanks for using Simple Migraine Tracker, and stay safe out there!

Proven themselves again

I don’t know how long I’ve been using this app, but it’s been years. And there have been ups and downs with it, but each time an issue arises (which is infrequent), the creators are quick to respond and accommodate my needs.

The initial reason I moved over to this app was that it is simple and fast to record. Other apps from migraine study labs have you answer 45 questions before they determine whether you have a migraine. Two issues with that, the 1st being that when you have a migraine, the last thing you want to do is stare at a screen for 10 minutes. Secondly, I am sure that anyone who has had a migraine pretty much knows when they have one.

The genius of this app is that you open it, hit the tracker and you’re done. Then you can go back in after you’ve recovered and add whatever notes you’d like.

They recently upgraded the app and I was upset that some of the features I think are necessary were no longer there, which was upsetting because I just love the quick, easy, migraine-friendly logging feature. When I complained, they responded immediately and fixed the issue - so quickly that I was able to give my neurologist the information he usually asks for. All without missing a beat.

With the upgrade, I was having a hard time with some of the other features I use quite frequently, but after contacting them, their answer arrived very quickly and satisfactorily.

What I’ve learned from this last interaction with the app creators is that they are very responsive and work quickly and efficiently to accommodate your needs in regard to the app.

I am very happy with the app and with the creators and definitely recommend it. It is well worth every penny.

Hi, I'm really sorry to hear this — especially since you found the app helpful before. That’s not the experience we want anyone to have. We’re actively working to improve things, and if you reach out to us at support@simplemigrainetracker.com, we’ll do everything we can to make this right. We truly appreciate your feedback and your past support of Simple Migraine Tracker. Stay safe out there, Simple Migraine Tracker Team

Used to be the best

Update to my review below. They did another “upgrade” and rendered the app worthless. You can note a migraine easily enough but accessing the number of migraines each month - a piece of data my neurologist wants to know - is basically impossible unless you pull out a piece of paper and manually note every headache. Which makes the app useless.

You can do a search for the # of headaches in the past 30 days, but I need to know how many I’ve had in each month of the year - because insurance companies determine eligibility for headache remediation procedures based on the number of headaches one gets per month.

I will be canceling this subscription and use a spreadsheet instead.

I originally gave this one star immediately after the upgrade because I lost a year’s worth of data and it wasn’t recording my headaches properly. But after a few weeks of searching for an app that could come anywhere close to the ease of this app, in desperation I decided to try this one again. I am glad I did. All the problems of the initial roll-out seem to be fixed, and the ease of just tapping once to record a migraine when I have a migraine is fantastic. Thank you!!!

Thank you for this feedback — you’re absolutely right that monthly migraine counts are critical, especially for neurologists and insurance requirements. We’re really sorry this made things harder for you — that was never our intent. We’re already working on making monthly totals much easier to view, and this will be included in an upcoming update soon. If you’re willing, please reach out to us at support@simplemigrainetracker.com — we’d love to make this right. Your feedback genuinely helps us improve the app. Stay safe out there — Simple Migraine Tracker Team

New AI analysis is amazing!

I’ve been using Simple Migraine Tracker for several years and was surprised to see the new update. A few nice extra touches and a welcomed visual refresh have really given this app a new life, but more importantly is the addition of a simple AI bot that can help you assess your history, look for triggers, and even offer advice on how to use the app. The best part: they kept the simple one-button record. That’s really why I use this app.

Thank you for updating your review — and for sticking with the app. Hearing that the simplicity helps during a migraine really means a lot to us. I also appreciate you calling out the confusion around the permission message. The app does not require sharing health data, and your information is encrypted and never sold. We don’t access your personal migraine data — you own your data and your experience. Privacy and security are a top priority for us, and we'll make that message clearer so it never feels stressful or misleading. Thanks for using Simple Migraine Tracker — stay safe out there.

Awful and greedy app overhaul

DO NOT USE. *EVERYTHING IS PAYWALLED NOW.* I used this app for over FIVE YEARS almost daily… Now, everything from weather tracking to even changing the color is paywalled!! They even added some stupid AI that NO ONE wants. They paywalled the ENTIRE app and it’s now useless, AND they stole my money. This app is no longer simple. This app used to be absolutely PHENOMENAL! It did exactly what they said it did. It was a simple app to track my migraines, and I paid for the premium sub to keep track of the weather and barometric pressure. I just wanted a clear, simple way to track my migraines and they absolutely RUINED IT. I just wanted a simple migraine tracker and this was the absolute best, until they updated it.

Hi Odecca7 — I’m really sorry this update felt like a step backward for you, especially after using the app for five years. That truly means a lot to us, and we never want long-time users to feel like they lost something they depended on. We haven’t moved previously available features behind a paywall — we’ve only added optional new features to help support ongoing development. Our goal has always been to keep Simple Migraine Tracker simple and reliable. If something you previously used isn’t working the way you expect — or if you feel you paid for something and aren’t getting the value you expected — please reach out to me directly at support@simplemigrainetracker.com, and I’ll personally make sure we make it right. Thank you for sticking with us for so many years and for sharing your feedback — it truly helps us improve. Stay safe out there!

Pretty friggen awesome

Way better than trying to keep track in my notes app lol. I like how fast it is to log migraines without tapping through a million things. It’s simple but still shows useful info when you look back at it.

Response from developer

Thank you so much! We're glad it's making migraine tracking easier — especially when you don't feel well. Really appreciate you being part of Simple Migraine Tracker, stay safe out there!

Useless export

Exports as a json file. Need standard ascii text not json. Due to extremely limited export capability. App is useless.

Now i find reports tend to combine previous years data with current year data. Useless if you mix years.

Response from developer

Thanks for the honest feedback. You were absolutely right about the old version. We’ve rebuilt exports so they’re no longer JSON-only: • JSON export (full structured backup/import format) • CSV export (plain-text, spreadsheet-friendly) • PDF export (formatted doctor-friendly reports on Standard/Premium) Current exports can include: • Attack history (with timestamps, intensity, notes, weather, activity, location, and custom fields) • Health & lifestyle data (medications, triggers, lifestyle) • Profile/account basics (contact info + preferences) We also added export range controls (Last 7 days, 30 days, 3 months, 6 months, Last year, or All time) so data isn’t forced into one mixed multi-year report unless All time is selected. If you’re open to it, please try the latest build and tell us how it feels now. Your feedback directly helped shape these changes. Thanks for using Simple Migraine Tracker, and stay safe out there!

Was good

I paid for this, and it was great for a while. But without updates, it’s quickly dying. I got this primarily for its simplicity, but also because it had a complimentary watch app. Unfortunately, the watch app no longer effectively logs migraines (it makes the sound but nothing more), and it doesn’t sync with the iPhone app, making it essentially useless.

Response from developer

Thanks for sticking with us and for the honest feedback. You’re absolutely right that reliability and syncing have to work every time. We’ve made major improvements since then: • Much more consistent update cadence • Immediate device syncing improvements so logs appear reliably • New dashboards and widgets for quick trend visibility • Expanded statistics tracking • NeuroBot AI features for deeper insights • Cross-platform rollout in progress If you’re open to it, we’d really appreciate you trying the latest version. We’re actively shipping improvements and would love the chance to earn back your trust. Thanks for using Simple Migraine Tracker, stay safe out there!

Tracking incorrect

The log of migraines I had does not align with the calendar screen, calendar screen saying I had 15 but the notes say less..

Response from developer

Thanks for reporting this — you’re absolutely right, counts should always match across views. We’ve made major improvements since then to tracking accuracy and consistency, including better sync reliability and cleaner stats/reporting logic so your data is more trustworthy across screens. If you’re open to it, please try the latest version and let us know if everything lines up correctly for you now. We take data integrity seriously, and feedback like this helps us keep improving. Thanks for using Simple Migraine Tracker, stay safe out there!

Notes

As a long time migrainer, I really like this app for tracking days, weather, patterns, etc. The one thing I wish it had was a notes section that I could record severity and what meds I took.

Response from developer

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback, and for using the app long-term. Great news: we’ve added much better attack detail tracking since then, including notes and intensity logging, plus richer ways to track health factors like medications and patterns over time. If you haven’t checked the latest version yet, we’d love for you to give it a try and tell us what you think. Thanks for using Simple Migraine Tracker, stay safe out there!

great app, not able to export download

There is nothing on the app to troubleshoot, Whenever I try to download and export, it comes out all my stuff. I don’t know how to fix that I try to delete the app and we started try download, but not so this app is a good at. Unfortunately, the export part needs to be fixed.

Response from developer

Thanks for the honest feedback, and for calling this out. We’ve put a lot of work into the export experience to make it more reliable and easier to use, with multiple export formats (CSV, PDF, and JSON) and improved sharing/report options. If you’re open to it, please try the latest version — and if export still gives you trouble, contact us from the in-app Help/Support screen so we can troubleshoot it directly with you. Thanks for using Simple Migraine Tracker, stay safe out there!

Just got the app

I just got the app and would like to record a migraine from earlier this week. How can I do that?

Response from developer

Hey Tatt1e! To record an attack that you've already experienced do the following: 1. Record a new attack 2. Navigate to 'History' 3. Click on your newly recorded attack 4. Click the 'Edit' icon in the top right of the screen near the date to change the attacks date to your previously experienced attack. (Note: When editing a date, you can only pick a date between the day's current date, and your 'First Joined' date.) To edit your 'First Joined' date, press and hold on the 'First Joined' cell inside the 'History' table view. Sorry for the delayed reply! I hope that helps! Thanks for the review, and stay safe out there!

Missing an important part

Needs to be able to set how long the migraine is lasting. My neuro says that’s something they need to know.

Response from developer

That's a brilliant idea. We're looking forward to implementing this in the next update, thanks for the feedback! Stay safe out there!

Favorite app for migraines!

This app makes recording my migraines so easy! ❤️ One touch and it records all the stats I need. I absolutely recommend this app to anybody who gets migraines.

Thank you, Nanny Goose - we appreciate your support! Stay safe out there!

No to this App!

I’m having a migraine. My doctor said to track. This app doesn’t say how to use it. I’m having a migraine. The buttons are giving my happy green check marks… if your having a migraine DON’T download this app, because ya know… your having a migraine but I really hope you get better.
