Too quick to finish

This app seemed perfect for my older child who can’t spell very well but within only a few sittings, she completed the whole lot. She didn’t get them all correct, but it was enough to move on. I know she can redo the activities, but particularly for a paid app, I really thought it would have more words so the whole app wouldn’t end so fast.

My comments

I really like this app!!!!! I like the voice of the person reading the words. I like how this app designs the level, and that made me a truly good speller! Thanks!

IOS7

Every since the upgrade to iOS7 my app has not been working! I'm wondering if the app needs to be upgraded as well! I liked it before but until they fix it I am only giving it 1 star cause we can't even open it and we just bought it a few days ago.

Response from developer

Thank you Ruthie74 for taking the time to leave your feedback. We identified and fixed the iOS7 issue that you encountered and we were able to release an update that fixed the problem within a few days of your review.

Great app

This app is really good it refreshes and also remind you how to spell ultimately learning how to write and read better! Which we all know is a good thing

Can you add the test of completed topics? I.e. mixture of different rules

Hi Tat1233, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review with your feedback. We have since released a large update to Simplex Spelling Phonics 2, in which we added two new modes that have the hints disabled. These two modes are great for evaluating a student's progress and work more like a "test". The new modes are: 1. A student assessment mode that gauges a student's current spelling ability. Based on how the student performs, the app will choose an appropriate starting spelling list for them. It can also be used later as a review/test, to evaluate how well the student has mastered their spelling skills and if there is a list that the student may need more practice with. 2. Review mode that allows students to review each spelling section that they have already completed to evaluate how well they have learned the concepts and spelling lists.

Simplex Spelling Phonics 2

I really like the format as it is very useful for the older child it is plain and simple and easy to understand. As a teacher and parent I am disappointed that only one user can be added.

Response from developer

Hi Patdi, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Simplex Spelling provides support for up to 40 users. You can follow these steps to get to the user account screen, where additional users can be added: 1. Navigate to the home screen. 2. Click on the button at the top left of the screen. The button has a down arrow on it. 3. Once the navigation bar appears, click on the button with an icon of a person on it. This will take you to the user account screen. On this screen user accounts can be created, edited, deleted or selected.

Pretty good

Would be great if there was a QWERTY keyboard option as many kids are now using computers and are familiar with this setup. They are going to use QWERTY at some point anyway.

Response from developer

Hi Vpport, Thank you for leaving a review. Simplex Spelling does have a QWERTY keyboard option. If you click on the button at the top left of the screen with the down arrow on it, it will display the navigation bar. On the navigation bar, there is a button with an icon of a cog on it that will take you to the settings screen. The settings screen allows you to change the keyboard layout between QWERTY and alphabetical. There are also a number of other settings that can also be adjusted in the settings, such as: the volume of the voice and sound effects; the number of times needed to master spelling words; what spelling is used based on your country; the letter case used, etc.

Awesome app!

I use Phonics 1 and 2 in my special ed classroom-in 6 weeks my students' spelling scores increased by 20%. This app supports reading reseach that shows study of phonics patterns can help both spelling and reading scores. Plus, my students love it - with only 1 iPad in my classroom, time using this app is at a premium because it is a fun way to study the patterns.

Needs different accents

A great app that does support different spellings, but unfortunately the accent is USA which is not good for UK phonics.

Change keyboard please!

This is a great app! My daughter can work independently and the phonograms help to reinforce what she has learned at school. Could you please change the keyboard so the letters are arranged in the order we are used to using while typing? So much time is wasted looking for the letters because we don't type in alphabetical order. Thanks!

Good app with room for improvement

The app has a lot of target words and has great visuals. It provides a lot of practice and is a motivating tool for spelling and literacy skills. The way syllables are divided is tricky though and doesnt follow what's typically taught in school. Ability to customize it by choosing target words per session, being able to record voice and use with multiple users simultaneously in a group setting would be great additions to future updates.

Thank you Rams slp for your feedback. We did release an update to Simplex Spelling Phonics 2 the week after you left your review. In the update we fixed all the syllable division issues.

Great comprehensive spelling application!

This is a very comprehensive application focusing on spelling! There are great visual clues, for the user, to assist with learning. Users can be self-sufficient with their learning. Data tracking is an option; however it does not track ability level with accuracy by date of play. You can't beat the price for the available features included!

wonderful app for teaching spelling :)

My general opinion of this app is that it's a wonderful app to teach spelling to many ages of children. The app is easy to use and has clear dirrections on what to do. I love the sentences the app provides for the children so they spell the correct word for it's meaning. The hint button provides wonderful prompt for the child using the app. I would highly highly highly recommend :)

Well made app!

This is a well thought out Spelling app to work on reading, spelling, and phonics skills. It comes with 54 different lessons that cover different spelling rules with an emphasis on syllables. There is an intro to each lesson that teaches the concept and then the child gets to practice by spelling. It is unique because it uses "reverse phonics' which breaks down the word into individual sounds. This app can store and track up to 40 students.Great for k-2nd! A must have!

Needs to be fixed

It confuses the student with inaccurate syllable division. Someone didn't do there homework (check the Webster dictionary). I would fix my review to five stars if they fix the inaccuracies (ex. clever, beside, etc)

Response from developer

Hi SahmQ, Thank you for the feedback. We released an update shortly after your review, in which we addressed all the syllable division issues.

Great application but needs more explanation for use by students

This application is great to help children learn the rules of spelling compound words, syllables, schwa e, and long a open syllable words. However, there needs to be a little more instruction on how to use the application itself prior to starting it for both adults to each students how to use the application or for students to learn on their own. With individual user profiles to track student progress, hints that help students sound out words, and the ability to use an ABC or QWERTY keyboard, this application is great for classroom use.

Special educator

Do not agree with how syllables are divided or identification of correct schwa sounds. Ex. If cle ver is divided Clev er then it follows closed and r-controlled syllable vowel sound rules. I disagree that be side has schwa sound. Be is open syllable, therefore long E.

Response from developer

Hi Klgsped, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Shortly after you left your review, we released an update to the app addressing all the syllable division issues.

Love this app!

I use this app in my special education classroom for students who experience autism. It's simple to use, will support up to 40 students and each lesson builds upon the previous one.

Good balance

Good feedback (letter colours, hints) and kids like the progress indicators. Good word list too.

Great app

This a great app with very educational style . I think it is worth more than this price . I strongly recommend this app to everyone and i also bought phonics 1 which is the basic words and principle for phonics . This app has a great hint option that help kids to correct themselves . On the other hand developer made a promise to put an exam option without hint in next update that would be very nice.

Hi sam maz, Thank you for your feedback. We did release a large update to Simplex Spelling Phonics 2 that added both an assessment mode and a review mode. The review mode is more like the exam option that you mentioned, in that it has no hints.
