About

lhod is a meditation timer, and only that. No feed. No follower count. No streak to protect, no badge to earn, nothing asking you to come back tomorrow. It opens on the timer, because the timer is what you came for. A SIT HAS A SHAPE An opening bell to begin. An optional Shamatha bell to close the settling/arriving period, however far into the sit you want it. A closing bell at the end. Repeat the whole thing as many times as you like or endlessly, until you decide you're done. Each of those bells is yours to choose or switch off entirely. Sit in silence if that's the practice. BELLS THAT RING WHILE YOUR SCREEN IS OFF The thing a meditation timer has to get right. Lock your phone, put it face down, and the bells arrive on time — with a second layer underneath in case your phone decides to close the app while you're sitting. THREE BELLS, MADE OF ARITHMETIC Bowl, chime, and gong, each generated by the app rather than played back from a recording. Their partials are tuned the way struck metal actually behaves, not quite in harmony, the high tones fading before the low ones, a slow beat under the fundamental. They ring out fully instead of being cut short. The chime is the quiet one. It marks the settling period and the round boundaries, both of which land mid-practice, so it sits well under the others and eases in rather than striking. PAUSE AND PICK IT BACK UP Freeze a sit and resume it later, having lost exactly the time you were away. FROM CONTROL CENTER Add sit to Control Center, the Action button, or the lock screen, and it's one press away from anywhere. While a sit is running, the button shows how long is left. WHAT IT DOESN'T DO No account. No network — the app has no networking code in it at all. Nothing is collected, nothing is uploaded, nothing is measured. Your settings stay on your phone.
