Dopest drum machine yet

Need more kits and sample recordings features

A fantastic drum-sample player which only needs one more thing to be perfect

Given Koala just “updated” its Samurai add-on to include the “chopper” mode which lets you trigger random slices of a sample (per pad), a feature that was incredible and only available in Drambo (AFAIK) before Koala’s inclusion…

All I have to say is — please include this mode in Sitala; so we can - for example - include samples which contain slice-variations of a drum hit and have Sitala select slices from such samples every time a pad is played.

This would make Sitala substantially more versatile than it currently is.

Please note I’m not asking for a way to separate a slice-collection sample into multiple pads — rather interested in having pads acquire the functionality of “selecting a slice” of the corresponding sample (conformed by multiple slice-samples) in a random fashion (or by another method such as velocity, or “note”).

Prima

Perfekt und zuverlässig :-)

Best drum sampler

This is my favourite drum sampler. So fast to work with. Browsing samples a breeze. the edit controls also good. Just needs a normalize function to be perfect for me. No updates in the last year a bit concerning….but as it is it is already good.

Excellent

Exactly what I was looking for. Preview in place functionality is implemented well.

How do you do this?

The image above shows a dark mode. I’ve been to Settings - Sitala, nothing there. I’ve checked the elipses in the upper left in the program, and the only settings available is for MIDI. How do you get the dark mode?
The reason I rated 4 out of 5 is because you show a mode that doesn’t seem to exist?

Response from developer

Like almost all apps on iOS, Sitala just follows the system settings. When iOS is in dark mode Sitala is in dark mode. When it's in light mode, Sitala is also in light mode. Almost no apps on iOS have individually configurable settings.

Only one thing

This app would have gotten 5 stars if it had a way to delete browser location.

Response from developer

That's coming in the next release. It's already implemented.

Awesome sampler

The workflow is lightning fast. It contains all the major parameters you need to tweak per sample. Has midi mapping and the best, most unique feature is previewing and replacing samples as they play via swiping.

I hope development of this app continues, I don't particularly need any more features but would definitely appreciate them!

You can layer drums via multi-trigger of pads and save/export kits if you are afraid of losing/moving samples as this sampler loads samples in place which is great as long as you don’t move your samples later.

There are choke groups and an awesome integrated compressor that will makes your drums phat with the turn of a knob!

This is like a lite version of beathawk, lite as in faster and more efficient! It’s a workhorse and I’m surprised it’s not sitting in the top music apps list!

Only missing the 5th star as there’s been no updates for almost a year now.

@dev - I prefer dark mode but the theme should be set in app and not rely on ipad display settings to change it… some more (or custom) colour schemes would be nice!

Stand alone

This needs to have its own sequencer and patterned based sampler. The next koala sampler.

Yes

I dig it!

Idk why it says 3 stars when I hit 5 fo sho!!!
Because it is a killer sampler/drum machine!!!

Response from developer

Any particular reason for only 3 stars if you dig it? ;-)

EDIT: IT WORKS THANK YOU DECOMPOSER

Original review: I downloaded Sitala on iPhone to use as an AUv3 Audio Unit Extension for GarageBand but it doesn’t show up as an audio unit extension! Is this just an error on my end?? Help!

New: It works now. Thank you so much devs for getting back to me with support. I love using this sampler with GarageBand!
For anyone wondering, you can edit and quantize midi in GarageBand with this app as each drum pad sample is assigned to a key on the piano

We have a video showing how to do it here: https://youtu.be/JjNPp3LbRE4

Yes

I dig it!

It doesn’t work on GarageBand

Nice!

I done created a nice workflow with Sitala I cant wait for more features and ways to modify the sample. I love the unique shaper knob and would also love an adsr knob to really set things off. Keep going💪🏾

The best drum sampler on iOS!

I’m sooooo happy with it

Genialer Dateibrowser

Es lassen sich sehr schnell neue Presets aus bestehender Sample Library erstellen. MIDI Mapping funktioniert auch sehr einfach und schnell.
Man sollte unbedingt noch Ordner für Presets anlegen können!

From Samplebank to Tiny Groovebox

I love this app, it’s easy to use, lightweight and a lot of fun. I used it mostly for making Drumkits but lately I enjoyed pushing it to its full potential: why only using drums? I loaded various synth one-shots into it that I recorded and manipulated with Koala Sampler. The straight forward midi-mapping makes it super easy to control this app as an auv3 via different sequencers (like LK or many others).
It’s very cool and fun to use it as a groovebox by loading some rudimentary drums and some bass / synth shots into one bank.
Or just make instrument banks and load multiple instances via auv3.

One thing that is a tiny bit annoying:
when fine tuning a sample, like for example making two different hihats sound good together, the time the „settings ui window“ refreshes is a little bit too long in my opinion. I regularly tweak the wrong sample when A/B them if I work too fast. Maybe there could be a setting implemented that „locks“ the sample edit to one chosen sample so you can trigger other samples quickly and just tweak the one you want to work on.
But this is complaining in „nitpicking territory“.

This App is great! Thanks to the developer/s for creating this beauty!!!

Doesn’t Slice Short Samples

I purchased this app cause it’s supposed to be able to detect and slice by transients. This was the first thing I attempted to do after downloading the app, and it didn’t work.

I loaded a short sample, a drum roll with three distinct transients, but the options to detect transients and slice to pads were greyed out. This was my main reason for purchasing this app and It doesn’t seem to work. It seems there are some limitations with the slicing features of this app. Had I known this I wouldn’t have spent the money.

The app should be able to detect transients from any sample, regardless of size. I’m sure it does other things well, but this was my reason for buying. Hopefully I’m missing something here and can get a response from developer.

Response from developer

I think we'd actually replied before the review. :-) This is the first report we've had of someone trying to slice samples shorter than 1 second. Right now Sitala assumes anything shorter than 1 second is a single-shot. We've got some planned updates to the slicer a version or two out, and it looks like revisiting that assumption at that time would make sense.

Less is more, almost

Sitala is a great addition to the rhythm section of any IOS music maker. What’s so good is the simplicity coupled with intelligent functionality. The ability to swipe and audition all samples within a folder is a superb innovation. Also, because the app does NOT duplicate files, but rather uses them in situ, it’s a space saver. AU3 works well, too. I would like to be able to load and slice to pads larger files. At present anything it considers too long has the option greyed out. Another problem is that external sources other than iCloud, such as Box are not yet supported, and one issue that is not the fault of Sitala at all. Audio Share is badly in need of an update so that apps like this can see its folder.

Good first impression

thoughtfully designed, plays nice with GarageBand. GarageBand’s kits are not tunable so this his helps in that regard. However it only comes with a stock 808 kit so you have to hunt down your own samples.

Response from developer

There are now two additional kits (hip hop and retro) in the latest release.
