UX is terrible.

I was so confused using this app, and couldn’t even try the key feature, skipping ads.

Also it has a few bugs and they ruins experience more. I think it has its potential, but really needs to be fixed in many ways.

Low usage on mac but not on iOS

Relative Low battery usage and insanely small app. But... the UI is quite anti-user. There is no way to date reverse sort the episodes (which is a must, since I listen to recorded news). Interface is quite spartan.

EDIT: Pocket Casts gives me more usability and less battery usage. Uninstalling. But still keeping the app on mac.

Mixed feelings

First, congratulations for optimisations! Low battery usage and insanely small app.

But... the UI is quite anti-user. There is no way to date reverse sort the episodes (which is a must, since I listen to recorded news). Interface is quite spartan. I guess that's the price paid for performance.

meh

the cpu usage is very good hovering around one percent, but the user interface is completely anti user

Feature request: allow importing opml files

I’d like to be able to add podcasts in bulk if at all possible

Import ompl?

I was hoping to import my podcast subscriptions from an opml file. I tried saving one from this app to see what format it was in but can't find it in icloud. It didn't ask for file permission so not sure it dashed it at all.

Great player!

Thank you very much!
Please add the speed options. I don’t have the time to listen talks on less than 1.5x speed.

Terrible

I didn’t think an interface could be worse than iOSs.
Hard to see, can’t view descriptions, useless search application, non-intuitive controls.
Waste of money. Would be easier to stick your head out a window and hope you hear a podcast.

Big buttons! Great user interface!!

And the headphone buttons are able to skip ahead and go back. Perfect!! Why don’t other apps have these obvious features? Thank you for this awesome app

Great app

As someone who is a bit behind "the times", and am just getting into Podcasts. This app is awesome! Simple, easy to use, and keeps me up to date, without having to use multiple apps! Well worth the price!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I only gave it 4 stars because it takes up a lot of space even without downloading episodes. UI is beautiful and it has replaced overcast for me. Keep up the good work

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the review! I've gotta be honest, the space thing bugs me as well, and I've been taking small pokes at this issue from time to time. No time like the present however, so I'll make this my number one priority for the next release. At very minimum I'll create a new button in the settings menu for "cleaning up" old episodes, though I think I may have already found the "core" issue, half-downloaded podcast episodes. At any rate thank you so much for the fantastic feedback, I'm all over this one!

Surprisingly basic.

Skipcast is a pleasant app. It excels in the ability to find, research an add podcasts to individual play list (more on that later). It has an intuitive interface and some standout audio features. However I cannot get past that lack of settings for your casts.

The single playlist per channel I suppose would be fine for some but others are more podcast hungry. Advanced users may have multiple lists like Technology lists, Newsbrief lists, Video lists and just plain old Audio lists. You're not gonna find that in this app. Everything is just housed under one flat list per title. It's disappointing that such a wonderful app is missing play list customization. There are many free podcast players that offer multiple list play features. Being able to create multiple lists by date, or type (Video/Audio) or main topic (News, Politics, Music etc.)

You also will greatly miss the ability to control what gets played and when. It's missing the ability to play your casts from "Oldest to Newest" or vice versa.

Despite the apps amazing catalog of podcasts and description pages of those podcasts, you can't see the individual podcast contents unless you actually subscribe. Something that I hope will be fixed in updates.

All in all it is a nice app. However, with basic control features and customizations missing it does not justify its current price especially with so many free podcast players offering so much more. You're probably going to want to wait for either a substantial price cut or at least an update that fills in the missing features.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the review! We've released more than (40!) feature updates since this review, hopefully the issues experienced have been solved. If not though -- I take bugs very seriously, so please send an email to info@skipcast.net and let me know how I can help!

Crashing

Crashed at least 5 times in 15 minutes.

Awesome

Super easy to use and quick searches. I wanted to try a newer product and this worked great for me. I recommend it if you are looking for a podcast search engine that has ease of use.
