About
A corny old tour guide rides shotgun and narrates your drive.
Type where you're headed. Skipper plans a route, finds stories along it, and tells them as you pass the places they're about. He's a ham. He will pun. Underneath it, he's telling stories grounded in cited sources.
PLAN IT IN YOUR OWN WORDS
Try "Tahoe City down to South Lake Tahoe." See the route and hear a real story from it before creating an account. Planning is free. Choose Lake Tahoe, Reno & Carson City, or Yosemite National Park in the planning menu; available routes and stories depend on the selected region. Ask for a road outside the collection and Skipper will tell you.
HEAR THE ROAD
Download your drive, mount your phone, and start before setting off. Skipper uses your location to play stories along the route. Replay a stop or preview its story while you're parked.
YOUR ROUTE, WITH TURN GUIDANCE
Follow the route on an OpenStreetMap map, with the next turn and distance on screen and short spoken directions along the way. Keep Skipper open while driving: location updates require the app to be in the foreground. Road signs, traffic laws and actual conditions always take priority over the app.
DOWNLOAD BEFORE THE SIGNAL GOES
Download your drive's stories while connected. Keep the saved drive open online while its map finishes downloading before you leave, then play from your phone on the road. Planning and downloading need an internet connection; a downloaded drive still needs a usable GPS position for location-based playback.
A FREE ACCOUNT TO KEEP YOUR DRIVES
Planning and the route's preview need no account. Saving a drive uses one of your account's free drive credits. There is no subscription or in-app purchase.
KNOW WHERE IT COMES FROM
Every story carries its sources. Settings > Legal & Licenses includes the narration, music and map credits. Before your first planning request, Skipper asks permission to share the planning conversation with Google/Gemini; the Privacy Policy explains processing and retention.
Set up while parked, keep your eyes on the road, and let the guide do the talking.
