Don't bother

Don't buy this if you intend to connect it to a telescope. It does not connect to my Celestron 8SE with goto mount nor my Skywatcher MCT 127 on a AZ-GTI mount (or the tabletop mount). It is this software's problem because SkyPortal connects fine with my Celestron. I have tried to connect using my MacBook Pro (M2), iphone 17 and my IPad Pro 2024. Yes, I used the same IP address and port settings as SkyPortal. Tech support could not give any workable answers.

Replaces Star Charts

I still do a lot of Star hopping and Sky Safari is essential for that. I also use a PiFinder and run Sky Safari through/with that.

I love the detail information on most objects, and the items and news for the day and the week. I pay for the Pro version as I live LiveSky on my laptop and my desktop.

Pegasus SmartEye problems

It is very temperamental with Pegasus smart eye with frequent disconnects and frustrating stalls - very disappointed with how this works.

Old bugs aren‘t fixed

Several years old bugs won‘t be fixed… @edit: no, Simulation Curriculum Corp. isn‘t responsive to make bug fixes in this case. There is an absolutely annoying bug, where an icon obscures other menu operations (have a look in your Skysafari iOS forum), reported in 2022 (!!) that hasn‘t been fixed until now.

Must have app for Astrophotographers

This is my go to app for finding Astro imaging targets. It has the most comprehensive set of possible targets, including many obscure catalogues. A must have in my opinion.

GAIA downloaded, still capped at mag 15

The GAIA has been downloaded, star field FOV zoomed in, star magnitude set much dimmer than 15, Never Show Fainter Than set to Unlimited, no matter what no star fainter than 15 is displayed. I have SkySafari 6 Pro with no issue, 8 Pro simply does not work as advertised. Don’t know if it’s a bug or what, but this version is useless.

Missing some NGC objects

Have found some NGC objects are missing from this version. Example: NGC6144, the small globular cluster near Antares. It says not found when I do a search.

Crashed within minutes of upgrading from version 7. I guess “scope display” isn’t a usable feature anymore?

Best I’ve seen

I’ve been a dedicated amateur astronomer and astro-imager for a long time and have used Sky Safari Pro since early Mac only versions. It has consistently provided the answers to most of my questions quickly and reliably. The UI is easy to figure out and improves with each major revision. Customer support has also been great.

We have heard of no other consistent issues like this, so a reinstall will likely fix, but please reach out to support@skysafariastronomy.com to report the details so a fix can be developed rather than post cryptically here where it can help no one.

Yes! The macOS version is performing admirably! It's an incredible value to get the Mac and iOS/iPad versions all in one purchase and the in-app premium membership has family sharing. Purchase with confidence!

Love the app

Great app! Using it from version 6! But this glitch with compass! It’s triggers on by itself! Sometimes when you go back from object info, sometimes in the main view! Really annoying

Money trick

I pay twice but don’t work in my iPhone or iPad or Mac. For some reason is asking for buy more and more and more. In Celestrone software the same trouble.. double check what are you buying.

Bedienung echt schlecht

Safari 6 war noch schnell und übersichtlich zu bedienen. In 7 habe ich nichts mehr gefunden, bin die ganze Zeit nur am Suchen. Und meine Hoffnung, dass es in 8 wieder besser wird, ist leider nicht in Erfüllung gegangen.

Incredibly written and executed. You can be up and running in 1 minute - but there are also a ton of settings / features if you want to/ need to dive deeper. This program is the standard in our hobby.

The ultimate astronomy app is the ultimate astronomy app. You get all you need and would expect with the original purchase. The optional subscription is for those that want features with on-going costs like content creation from professional astronomers and astrophotographers, premium data feeds for weather and observing conditions, faster remote plate solving at StarPX.com, etc. You will pay more for coffee this week/month than you will for SkySafari premium all year. Astronomy isn't a cheap hobby, but SkySafari 8 Pro clearly represents one of the best values in the entire market given all the planning, logging, controlling, customizing, etc. tools and features we've packed into 2.6 GB of astronomy goodness. If you don't want to support astronomy and astrophotography authors and content creators, simply cancel SkySafari Premium before the free trial for 7 days runs out. Simple and easy for the customer to decide what is right for them.

I paid for a subscription, but every time I get on it, ask again

I paid for a yearly subscription and every time I sign onto this app I am asked if I want to buy it again. I don’t know if I’m got the full version or not. Don’t look that away. If I don’t get it cleared up I’m gonna want my money back cause I’m not getting what I paid for.
