Gets information so wrong

It’s a good app in theory but when you try to add readings it gets it all wrong and puts the wrong page number in and the wrong amount of pages read and even if you try to change it and save it it still proceeds to say the same thing

Response from developer

Thank you for this, you're describing a real problem and we want to fix it. We've been reworking exactly this area (reading logs and page math), and an update is on its way to the App Store right now. If it still misbehaves after updating, please email us at hello@slowreadapp.com with the book and the numbers you entered, we'll get it sorted and would love to win back your stars.

Expensive

I would have loved this app but there is no way I’m paying $40 multiple times to use an app. I’m not even paying $10 unless it’s a 1 time charge and even that is pushing it. It’s too bad though it probably would have been a good app but anyone can do the same thing on Canva or another app for FREE!

Response from developer

Hi! Just to clear this up: SlowRead never charges $40 "multiple times." There's one subscription (with a free trial so you can try everything first), and if you prefer a one-time charge, we offer exactly that ,a lifetime purchase, pay once and it's yours forever. We're a tiny indie team and the price is what keeps the app alive, with no ads and no selling your data. We'd love for you to give the trial a real try and if anything feels off, email us and we'll help.

Intrusive discount notification

I tried signing up but it asks me to pay and when I didn't it put a very intrusive notification on my screen.

Response from developer

Sorry the discount notification felt intrusive. We only show it once, so that no one misses the chance to enjoy the app at its best price, but we take your point and will work on making it gentler. Thanks for giving SlowRead a try.

$40

I thought this would finally be an app where I can get my books on my shelf and that I wanna read looking nice. But before I even got to pick two books it’s saying to pay $40 a year. This is crazy don’t waste your time.

Response from developer

Hi! Sorry the paywall caught you off guard, that's fair feedback and we're working on making the intro friendlier. For context: we're a tiny indie team with no ads and no data selling, and the subscription covers the licensed book database that makes every shelf work. There's a free trial, so you can build your full shelf and see if it's for you before paying anything. We'd love for you to give it another chance. 📚

disappointing

You literally have to pay a subscription to use this app … about 33€ per year.

Response from developer

Hi! Thanks for the honest feedback. We're a tiny indie team, no investors, no ads, and we never sell your data. The subscription is what covers the licensed book database and keeps the app alive and improving. We hear you on the price, though, and there's a 50% discount available for cases like yours. Either way, thanks for giving SlowRead a try. 📚

Subscription Based

I was real excited for a new app that looks absolutely amazing, but you have to pay to USE the app 🙃. $40/year for a MOBILE APP; ridiculous. It’s a mobile app…big pass. I’ll go back to using Margins (same features for FREE). Ha, even Good Reads isn’t this scummy lol

Response from developer

Appreciate you writing this out, even if it's blunt. We're a small team building this full-time, and an app like this has real running costs, Apple's cut, the developer account, infrastructure, and the constant work of keeping everything working across iOS updates. Subscriptions are what make that sustainable. Free apps usually pay for it another way, whether that's ads or data. We do offer a discount that brings it down to 29$, and there's a free trial first. Genuinely no hard feelings if it's still not for you.
