Terrible, when it actually works
I purchased a NX604 head unit with the main feature I wanted being smart access. I am so disappointed by this integration. It 'worked' all of 1 minute before I attempted to open Waze (why I wanted smart access in the first place). Not only did opening waze crash the app, it bricked the entire smart access system! Now all I can get is a blank screen. It's complex to get set up in the first place (the order you have to plug things in and then open the respective device's programs is a joke) and the instructions on setup are lacking detail. It might as well read 'plug it up and good luck'
Wait for Apple CarPlay to mature and go that route instead. It seems to at least work, as limited as it is at the moment.

Has potential
Smart access is a great feature for idevice users. Unique platform, isn't offered with other manufactures--other manufacturers such as Kenwood, pioneer, alpine, etc. all use a similar UI which is actually quite horrid and slow to use. Clarion's cloud-based platform is much quicker and surprisingly seamless. The only upset of the smart access is the lack of apps and it's limitation due to the short comings of the apps available.

Bought the nav expecting to use with my iPhone. But guess what?! This ship never works. Plus, it chases iPhone keyboard. You need to restart your phone in order to get it back.

I'm looking forward to using this with the all new NX603 in Q2 and my iPhone 5. Clarion seems to have it all going on compare to the competition.

I downloaded this app after purchasing the Next Gate from Clarion...it looks and works great so far but I'm confused because several of the shown apps (VL4car, contacts4car, weather4car, news4car) are not listed under "recommended" or in the app store...are these just not available yet since the smart access platform is newer?
