AI VIDEO NOT INCLUDED IN SUBSCRIPTION
I like the app for the photo, but I’m disappointed the new video AI thing is not Included you have to pay for it even after paying for the subscription….

We completely understand your concern, generating AI Videos from scratch requires expensive external hardware that costs us real money every time a user taps 'generate,' so we priced it separately. This allows us to offer the tool without raising the base subscription price for everyone. However, to let you test it out, your Pro plan automatically gives you 3 free AI videos a month for your first three months! We hope this explains our thought process and keeps the app affordable for everyone.

Not as good as it used to be
It keeps freezing and if you click on a room, it doesn’t open. I have the latest phone so it’s not me. I’m disappointed.

Great app but has problems
The app is great has been super useful although it does crash a lot and can glitch or not upload things and just come up with a blank canvas at times that’s kind of annoying as it distrusts the flow of things, other than that nothing bad to say
Love this app!
Really great room mock-ups and they are constantly adding more. Frame choices are perfect. Custom matting is a huge bonus! The new video feature when you save is FAB!
A great app
A wonderful app for artists, helpful and simple to use. My only wish is for more interior settings, especially suited to smaller paintings. Also, the app has started crashing recently, so it would be great if that could be fixed.
Something changed
I’ve subscribed to the app for two years. Recently I logged in to find all the art that was uploaded gone.
Plus now the mobile app and the desktop app are not linked.

Inconsistent
I like the app but sometimes my artwork disappears and I have to waste time troubleshooting. It is a very expensive product so I expect more accuracy
Most interiors you have to pay for
Last time I downloaded this app I felt there were a few interiors and plain backgrounds you could use for free now it seems like you have to pay for most of them, even the white background.

Only wish there were more new environments more often.

I used to find this app very easy to use. It’s gotten way more complicated than it needs to be.

Simply too many bugs
I have subscribed two different times and this last time, it completely locked up my desktop and I couldn’t shut it down. It’s too much trouble to import art from your desktop to your iPhone and do a decent job editing, this should work on your computer and it does not and for this price, it is not worth the subscription. Super frustrating, thought he had worked through these issues.

Shady, stay away from this app.
I tired this app for sculpture. It did not work and so I canceled the subscription. They continue to charge from six months later. Apple card won’t help, Goldman Sachs facilities this robbery each month, run, for your financial life. I will be contact the federal bank fraud people next.

A big fail on desktop - it’s a horrible user experience.
I’ve had this app installed for a while. I’m trying to add images to an existing layout. I can’t drag them around to rearrange, or add images to existing placeholders. The AI help bot says it’s a bug. A pretty big bug, I’d say. So far my experience has been that this app is worthless.
UPDATE:
I contacted support via email. There’s a link at the bottom of their website that goes to help.smartist.app, but ti leads to a failure page. Restarting the app on desktop did fix my click and drag problem, without their help.
There’s no way to save a session to continue it later. The Export function lets you export a jpeg or a png of the screen with a “Share” button, but the “Save” button apparently does nothing. I tried searching for a solution, and came up empty.
Somehow I discovered that the Smartist app saves the jpeg into the User Library/Containers folder with a long code name. No dialog to select the folder; no way to change its name. The bot couldn’t help me with that; and an email to the “help” desk was never responded to.
The biggest failure of this app is the lack of any clear documentation. Its quirky user interface and lack of features that have been with Mac for years lead me to recommend other ways of modeling artwork in a physical environment. This app has promise, and some of the customization features are interesting, like the ability to remove or add other objects seem like they’d be useful. But unexpected behavior changes your layout, and causes more headaches than it’s worth. WHen my (overpriced) subscription is up, I won’t be renewing.

Great way to display art at scale and what a time saver!
06/2026 — I’ve loved this app, but right now the iPad version of it isn’t working properly. Some of the mat options make the artwork become unmovable and the export option does not respond. I also find the amount of questions about the work unnecessary in order to just upload one. Lastly, it would be great if the account could sync on different devices for on the go access.
Using Smartist has saved me lots of time while letting me display my work beautifully! It’s an important part of helping people visualize art in their space.
I’m so happy with the way all the interior images respond to true scale and I don’t have to manually estimate proportions using other software.
They update the interiors often, so I can always create fresh images to show my work.

Great App with Helpful Support
Update: I recently experienced a serious issue where my saved artwork data disappeared, which was very stressful. However, the support team helped investigate the issue, and my data was eventually restored.
I appreciate their support and am relieved that everything is back. Smartist remains a very useful app for creating artwork mockups, and I hope the app will continue improving its data sync and backup reliability.
