About
The Smrt app is for schools that teach English with Smrt English. Students do the lessons, exercises and quizzes their teachers assign, teachers assign and review work, and school admins follow the week at their school. Accounts, classes and scores are the same as on the website.
An account from your school is required. Students and teachers sign in with the Google or Microsoft account their school uses. There is no public sign-up.
FOR STUDENTS
Your work, in order
Home shows what is due today, work you started but have not handed in, and recent feedback from your teacher. Each class page lists its units, what is assigned in each one and how much you have handed in.
Every question type, including speaking
Exercises include multiple choice, gap fill, dropdowns, sentence and word ordering, short and long answers, essays and recordings. For speaking questions you record your answer, play it back, record again if you want, and hand it in for your teacher to mark.
Answers saved as you go
Each answer is saved on the phone straight away and sent to the server shortly after, so you can stop and pick up the work later. Timed quizzes need a connection.
Results and feedback
See your score and your teacher's comments and, once your teacher releases them, the correct answers. Quiz results are broken down by skill.
Join a class in seconds
Scan your teacher's QR code or type the class code.
FOR TEACHERS
Assign the next lesson
Home shows your latest assignment with how many students have handed it in, and the next lessons in course order, ready to assign with a due date and an optional note. Several exercises can go out at once.
Quizzes
Give unit quizzes and exams to a class, see who has submitted, and release the answers when the class is ready.
Review writing and speaking
Go through open answers one student at a time, listen to recordings, add a score and a comment, then release the answers to the class.
Your students
Add students with the class code, a QR code or by email, approve join requests for young learners' classes, and open any student's work, progress and attendance.
FOR SCHOOL ADMINS
The school's week at a glance
The last 7 days compared with the 7 before: active students, work handed in, hand-in rate and average score, with a list of classes, teachers and students that need attention.
Classes, teachers and students
Create classes, invite teachers and students, move students between classes, browse your school's course library and show your school's logo in the app.
WORKS WITHOUT A CONNECTION
Lessons and exercises are kept on the phone, so students can keep working where the connection comes and goes. Work handed in offline is sent automatically when the phone is back online. Teachers can open their course and assign work offline too.
NOTIFICATIONS THAT RESPECT THE SCHOOL DAY
New work, a reminder the evening before it is due, released answers and reviewed work. Nothing is sent between 9 pm and 7 am in the school's time zone, and each type can be turned off.
VIDEOS
Smrt Café: short English videos with captions, sorted by audience and topic.
THE COURSES
Smrt English courses are mapped to CEFR levels and follow a communicative (CLT) approach, with lessons that build reading, writing, listening and speaking together. Schools choose from general English, academic English, exam preparation and young learners' courses.
PRIVACY
The app shows no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites. Analytics uses no advertising identifier. You can delete your account from the Profile screen.
