Very good barcode data collection app for ERP
We use this app in conjunction with out companies ERP (enterprise resource planning) package called Made2Manage. With the SMS Group's add on barcode system called Shop Floor Data Collection, we can now use our phones to query our database's inventory records and even make transactions on the shop floor.
The alternative in the past has been an expensive Intermec handheld computer, which does the same thing, but the iPhone is much quicker, a better interface, and you can fit it in your pocket. Not to mention, most people already have one, so there are no expenses if you own a cell phone. The camera can even scan our barcodes, but they also support barcode scanning cases with laser scanners built in for longer distance scanning.
SMS Group also listens to their customers about features and ways to make the app better. They are also very prompt in troubleshooting issues when they arise. I have very little negative to say, except the app could offer some more functionality, however this is probably more of an issue with our ERP software and SFDC talking to each other, more so then SMS Group supplying our needs.
Nonetheless, the app has made major improvements this year and I look forward to seeing other ways it is improved as the mobile device revolution continues to drive software company's decisions.
