About
Nobody's up. Not over a year. Not over ten.
Sonar is a companion for stopping gambling. It keeps the record: how long since
your last bet, what the habit was costing, and which nights you personally find
hardest. Then it tells you when one of those nights is coming.
WHY THE SAME NIGHTS
Betting urges aren't random. They arrive with payday, in the days just after a
bet, on an empty evening. A thirty-second check-in each day is all Sonar needs
to learn which of those are yours, and it says so in words: "Money landed
today." "Both of your slips so far were on payday." Never a score on its own.
Being told tonight is a risky one, before it starts, is a different thing from
writing down what happened after.
WHAT YOU GET
• Days without a bet, and what those days have been worth in money
• Tonight's risk in plain words, always with the reasons behind it
• Your own patterns: the weekday that's worst, the hours that are hardest
• A screen for the worst ten minutes, holding your own reasons for stopping
and the crisis helplines
• Everything you write, kept on this phone and nowhere else
IF YOU SLIP
Your current run starts again from today. Your total days clean and your longest
run are counted from your history every time a screen opens, so there is no
stored total for a bad night to reset. The app is built to be opened after a bad
night rather than deleted.
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No account. No email. What you write never leaves your phone. Anonymous counts
of which screens get opened are sent so I can see which parts of the app get
used; never your notes, your reasons, your amounts or which triggers you pick.
The privacy policy lists exactly what they contain.
FREE
Nothing to buy, no trial to run out, and no card to enter. The urge screen and
the crisis helplines stay free whatever happens to the rest of it.
English and French. iPhone only.
Sonar is not a treatment, a therapy, or a substitute for professional help. If
gambling is hurting you, the app lists confidential helplines in several
countries, and they are free or the price of an ordinary call.
