SongCatcher

Songs you can send to someone, a say in where a catch opens, and a catch that shows you what it's holding back. SEND A SONG TO SOMEONE • Share a catch and it becomes a page anyone can open — artwork, title, artist, where and when you heard it. On an iPhone with SongCatcher installed the link opens the app rather than the browser, and everyone else gets the page. • A preview sits in front of the share sheet with a switch for every fact, labelled with the fact itself — "Playa del Carmen", not "Location". Place, date and a line of the meaning start on. Your own note starts off, because publishing your writing should be a decision. • Lyrics and street addresses are never shared. There is nowhere in a shared page to put them. WHERE A CATCH OPENS • Choose which services a song links out to: Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube Music, YouTube, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, Bandcamp, Qobuz and Pandora — plus Google when you would rather just search. New installs start with Apple Music and Spotify; change it whenever you like in Settings. • A button now appears only when SongCatcher holds a link to that exact track, so tapping one lands on the song instead of a page of search results. Spotify and Google are always there — their own search finds the rest. ON A SONG • A catch you haven't saved shows what is waiting rather than an empty screen: the first line of the lyrics readable, the rest behind glass, and a plain list of what a save opens. • When no lyrics database has the song, you can search the web from the song page and paste in what you find — translation and meaning run straight after, whatever the words' origin. And where there are no lyrics to be had at all, SongCatcher can tell you about the song instead. • Tap the artwork to fill the screen with it. HEARD IT AGAIN • A song counts as heard again only if something else played in between, rather than every time it is still on. • The listening drawer says a song is still playing instead of going quiet, and a row that comes back around is picked up and set down in the current session. FIXES • SongCatcher now recovers when the microphone goes quiet without saying so, instead of listening to nothing until you relaunch. • Leaving a song page no longer switches the microphone off. • One recording that two recognisers credit to different artists now folds into a single catch instead of two. • Arranging your saved songs by artist no longer resizes every cover on the shelf. • A song that no lyrics source has now gives up sooner, instead of holding the page while it waits.
