Great chess aid with a notable flaw

Enjoy all the training and options, however it’s terrible to use on an iPhone. The screen display (4.7”) is too small to consistently identify pieces on the board without spreading fingers. Then you lose the board positioning. The zoom/shrink/fight the rotation takes all the joy out of using the app. Not expensive, but the limited use makes me wish I had gone for the “lite” version.
Not going to get an IPad just to use this app.

Hours of fun

SparkChess is a fun and versatile game. It’s good for learning and can be a great challenge!

Excellent game

Love this game! The only thing that I can think is superior to this game is HIARCS chess!

SparkChess

I just bought the pro edition and can’t even play multiplayer online

Help

App won't open. Dec please help. I'll give a good review because I like the browser version but I might change it later

Downgrading

I loved playing SparkChess on the browser version. This is one of the first Apps I installed on my iPad. I recommend it to the students that I teach. I had a problem with an older version, but it was fixed. This is one of my favorite chess apps. It has a ton of features.

Response from developer

I'm sorry about that issue. It was fixed two years ago. I'd love if you could try SparkChess again and revise your rating. A 5-star rating helps us keep the development going!

Fix the bug with the 50 move rule

The 50 move rule is only 25 moves for some reason. This can turn a win into a draw. Please fix.

Response from developer

This issue was fixed in version 12.1.2. The new version 14.0.0 brings a lot of new features and improvements and I'd love if you could try SparkChess again and revise your rating. A 5-star rating helps us keep the development going!

Latest update broken

The latest update when in multiplayer mode pops up a finished message and blurs the board once the game is over. It didn’t used to do this. This prevents you from then saving the game exporting it for review as once you click the ok button it has reverted to the select opponent screen and the move history is lost.

SparkChess

Excellent format 24/7 access all levels all times -improves my game -keeps me thinking .Why go elsewhere?it’s all here.

Hate it !!!!

Will not allow you to rotate tablet

Response from developer

With the latest release (14.0.0) you can now rotate the board (it has a fully 3D board) and you can switch sides via replay mode. There's also a two-player mode. I'd love if you could try SparkChess again and revise your rating. A 5-star rating helps us keep the development going!

It’s OK

It is nicely presented but has a couple of issues. You can’t playa local game with another human player. The resignation button has no confirmation so once pressed, the game is lost and combined with the large button this is easy to do accidentally. There are only 6 levels/opponents to choose from. The first two are very easy to beat. After that I struggled but I’ve only started learning the game properly. You also can’t undo after a game is finished which would be good to see how a different move would have panned out.

One reason not to buy...unfortunately

I played the free version for a while and enjoyed it so bought the App. Unfortunately once installed I lost the ability to expand the board on my iPad. For someone with some physical limitations with respect to fine motor skills, I can no longer adequately play as the board is too small for me to accurately move the players. If this can't be fixed I will need yo find some way of getting a refund...too bad as I would have liked to try my hand at climbing the performance ladder

Timing is pointless

This is an excellent app if you want to play with others online. However, they totally destroyed the entertainment value of chess by imposing a timer which does not allow you to think your next moves. One minute per move is just not enough, and there isn't a way to pause the game once you start. Those are terrible oversights. I feel like I paid for a game with a very bad flaw. Why have a timer at all is ridiculous. I would be more than happy to pay extra to remove the timer, but that's not even an option.

Response from developer

A timer is needed in online play, otherwise a player could stall the game indefinitely until the other one quits. However, in SparkChess 12 we introduced Teams and in SparkChess 14 we added time control for teams. So you can have your own team and set the allowed time to as much as you want! I'd love if you could try SparkChess again and revise your rating. A 5-star rating helps us keep the development going!

Brilliant

Best chess game I've played yet!

Fantastic!

Spark Chess is a great app, you can play against the computer, against online opponents & you can get chess lessons which goes through the basics & the harder stuff. Recommend to anyone; young or old; beginner or advanced. An easy 5 stars!

Great chess app

Spark chess is one of our favorite chess apps ... Cody, Claire and Boris have become members of our family. Yes, there was a draw issue (which was frustrating) but they fixed it quickly. Good job!

Great chess game

Great place to play the best board game of all.

Great learning tool for kids!

This is a great tool for kids to learn chess, especially with the visual aids teaching you various options to move. For those that are learning to play there is no better chess app in the App Store. The visual cues for how each piece moves is really without parallel. We started playing the app through a free download on the pc through chrome and really liked the way this taught our kids how to play.
