About
Muffled sound. Volume down. Something is in the grille.
ToneFlush is a speaker cleaner that works with sound. It drives your iPhone's own speaker with low-frequency tone patterns until the diaphragm is really moving, and what is loose in there comes out with the moisture it is sitting in.
WHAT COMES OUT
• Grit, grime and residue that moisture carries with it
• Moisture sitting in or just behind the speaker opening
• The muffled, "underwater" sound that comes with them
WHAT DOES NOT COME OUT
Be sceptical of any app that tells you otherwise.
• Dry dust bonded to a dry grille. Sound moves liquid, not solids, and the grip on a dry particle is far past anything a phone speaker can produce
• Anything in the charging connector or the microphone
• Internal liquid damage or corrosion
That list is on the screen you start from, every time.
FOUR CLEANING PATTERNS
• Quick Blast — 165 Hz, pulsed, 30 seconds. Free, once every other day
• Gentle Sweep — a quieter glide from 180 to 260 Hz, 30 seconds
• Double Tap — steps through 140, 180 and 220 Hz, 36 seconds
• Boss Mode — a wide glide from 120 to 300 Hz, 45 seconds
165 Hz is a common starting point, not a universal optimum. Speaker hardware differs between iPhone models, so a sweep is often a better second try than the same tone again.
SEE WHETHER YOUR SPEAKER IS BLOCKED
Most apps ask you how it sounded. ToneFlush measures it. It plays a ladder of eight tones, 120 Hz up to 4 kHz, out of each speaker it can address, and listens to what comes back through the microphone.
It measures the two speakers it can genuinely drive: the earpiece, and the loudspeaker at the bottom. It does not invent a third. The holes on the other side of the connector are the microphone, and no app can drive those.
Your first run becomes a baseline. Run a pattern, test again, and each speaker gets its own before, after and change. It listens to the room first, and when the room is too loud to measure properly it says so, instead of showing a number it cannot stand behind. These are relative readings from an uncalibrated microphone, not lab instruments, and they cannot tell you whether your hardware is damaged.
A REAL SOUND ENGINE, NOT A SOUND FILE
Every tone is generated on your device in real time. No audio files, no downloads, no network. Frequencies are integrated into a continuous phase so sweeps stay smooth, every tone fades in and out so nothing clicks, and the level is capped below full scale so it never clips.
SAFETY, EVERY RUN
• It refuses to play through wired headphones, Bluetooth, AirPods, AirPlay or car audio. The tone only does anything coming out of the phone's own speaker
• A volume readiness check before you start. ToneFlush never changes your volume for you
• After three sessions back to back it suggests letting the phone rest instead
• Plain guidance on safe drying, and on what to avoid
If your iPhone shows lasting distortion, charging problems, display issues, overheating or unexpected shutdowns, ToneFlush tells you to stop and contact professional support. More sound will not fix those.
YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
No account. No advertising. No tracking. No history of the sessions you run.
The microphone is used for one thing: hearing ToneFlush's own test tones. It is requested the first time you tap Run test, never at launch. The audio is analysed as it plays and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. What is kept is a few decibel figures, on your iPhone.
Full VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion and Increase Contrast support.
