No longer a free tier

I recall using this app in the past, but when I went to check it out again, it now requires a subscription. I’m deleting the app since I don’t use it often enough to make a subscription worthwhile.

Better Info on Internet

Better free and inclusive information including where to order in a general internet search including one of the new AI applications like Copilot.

Unsure of the point

Talking about both free version and subscription of the app (not the website). This app seems to be, mainly, an encyclopedia for edible fruits/vegetables/roots/fungi (ie, Wikipedia, but with far less detailed information and not open to user contributions). In the app there is also a locator of sorts, but you can’t really customize where you want to search or how the information is sorted. For example, there is an option to let the app use your phone’s location, but there’s no way to know where it thinks you are or manually fine tune, and the list of produce it shows isn’t necessarily relevant anymore-it’s October as I type, all results, which were arbitrarily listed (not showing by closest to my location) were from July, and I can’t really get much detail beyond that in the app. I could go on, but suffice to say, even though I recognize that people don’t work for free, hence the subscription Specialty Produce wants users to pay, the annual subscription isn’t getting most (maybe Californians who have year round growing and farmer markets) anyone a useful service. Instead of this app, just go to their website if you find their efforts useful; there’s far more there and it’s for free.

Amazing resource for fruits and vegetables

This is a great app for anyone in the food business !

Amazing resource for fruits and vegetables

This app is an extremely comprehensive database about fruits and vegetables. Take the time to explore and you’ll see!

Unhappy early supporter who has since deleted

I was an early supporter of this app & loved using it when it was free.
When it became subscription only, I expected that I would be ‘grandfather’ed in. But the app became useless to me and I’ve since deleted it.

Produce Love

I find this app extremely useful and interesting. It really is like an Encyclopedia for produce. My favorite feature is finding recipes linked to each produce item. You can even save recipes in your own digital cookbook! :) if you are a produce lover or foodie, this app is worth every penny.

Now just a useless waste of space

The app has now become subscription and is now useless... one of those update bait and switch moves. I grow exotic/tropical fruits and I’ve had the app for years and I used to check it out every once and awhile, and liked it well enough I guess... there isn’t any information on it that is not available elsewhere on the internet.
So now it is just a brick taking up valuable space... DELETING IT!

Specialty Produce

This is a review of the free limited version. I find it to be useful as a database of produce but extremely limited as a resource to the benefits of these fruits and vegetables. This version has most of the content locked. While it is understandable I feel the app could at least provide each produce listing with the essential heath ingredients it contains. That would make it more useful to the free crowd with information still available to the premium crowd.

Response from developer

Hi D. Hill, Thank you for your feedback. We're always working to improve our App; all comments are much appreciated. We understand the value of the information you are requesting and though at this time it isn't available on the App, we encourage you to check out our website where the desired information can be found.

One star for free, buy my subscription for more stars

Used to be great, now requires a subscription (even though last I checked there is still free info on the website).

I would have absolutely paid a one time fee for the app but a recurring subscription is a complete non-starter.

Response from developer

The same great content is still there. To sustain the research, quality writing, photography, and technology, we have decided to ask for $2.00/mo. We know some will not use the App enough to warrant subscription ownership, so we make our content available on the mobile web for free.

Awesome

Lovin’ the app!

I work as a broker and this is extremely helpful.

Nothing free to use

I did not want to provide any cc info. I just wanted to use the app. Utterly useless.

Great app!

I used this almost daily. Some many great recipes. I love I can build my own cookbook. Great job guys.

Sold!

I’ve had the app for 4 years now and was shocked when the new version called for a subscription. My 30-day trial just ended and I must admit I love the app more than before. Easy to use, can swipe within produce pages :) and it's cool to see produce in markets near me and far with the share market features. From one veggie enthusiast to another, get the app!

Lame update

Used it for years and now you have to sign up and pay ??!? What the hell Not cool DELETE

New update 👎🏼

The previous version I had allowed me to look up produce, get info, access a few recipes...all free. New update requires *membership* to access recipes/info. Miss the older version. Better UI also. Deleted.

Response from developer

Our free version offers: over 15,000 recipes that you can organize into a personal cookbook as well as our Share Market that gives you an up to the minute in season list of fresh produce and hard to find fruits & vegetables. We also offer more than 2,700 articles on the mobile web. Thank you for your valuable feedback

Great app - worth it!

So I’ve been in the produce retail/wholesale industry for 30+ years and have had this app for many many years, first discovering it through the web long time ago, and to this day I think the work that is put in to attaining the proper information to keep us all informed for ourselves and our customers is quite amazing.

Did I question the newly added yearly charge of 24.99? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes, because I know through all these years that there’s really nothing comparable in one sitting like this app and it’s Produce encyclopedia.

I know some will turn away because of the cost but in the end I get it and it’s way worth the small investment to have endless Produce knowledge in the palm of my hand.

Beautiful update!

I use this app all the time. Love the new version!! Very happy that I can swipe through the product pages now. The share market is pretty cool. Now I can know where to get all the cool produce around me! Yay

It used to be a great app

I paid for this app on both ios and Android. When it worked it was great, but in the last year it crashed so often that I stopped using it. Then an update is released and I think great they have fixed the problem and. I can start using it again, but what I find is that that the crash bug was probably intentional. Now when I attempted to use it I find that they want $25 a year. No thanks and good by.

Dumping the app.

App is awesome, but not with the cost. Many people that use this app are retail produce clerks that don't have extra money for apps. Many of my employees have found this app an invaluable tool, but many can't afford another app that costs money to use.
