Disappointed

I was so hopeful for this app as I work with the adults with apraxia of speech but I found the X-ray and 3D illustrations to lack detail, especially the 3D illustrations. You can’t see where the tongue should be positioned.

Yet another subscription

Yawn. Also the supposedly free “try me” phonemes do not work. Offer a lifetime option, and make it a reasonable price while at it. All of this information is available on the web. I am not paying $30 a YEAR to have it organized in one place for me, ever. Outrageous.

Innovative App!

Great new app for speech

Awesome App!

The x-rays and animations are really cool!

Monthly fee

Y’all should do a one time buy, otherwise it’s not worth it in the long run for linguistics students and teachers. As a student, I’m more likely to use another resource than this app because of the monthly fee.

Immediately Asks for Money

This may be a useful app but you can literally do NOTHING until you pay for it. It’s so ridiculous that apps present themselves as ‘free’ and then when you open the app the first thing you get is a screen asking for you to pay. You can’t even test all the features using one phoneme unless you pay.

Response from developer

A tremendous amount of time, effort, and financial commitment goes into producing a high-quality, premium App. There is no other App in the world that uses x-rays to showcase how sounds are formed and this was a considerable dedication to bring to fruition. When you open the /k/ phoneme, you will find that all function is unlocked, in order for the user to know exactly what each and every phoneme offers.

No es bueno

No tiene las lecciones completas por que no es gratis

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We do offer full accessibility to the "k" sound to see how the App functions. Then, if users like what they see, they can subscribe for full access. Please reach out to us and we would be happy to give you a free trial to the full App! We have many exciting new features coming soon!

Amazing app

I really find this app very helpful. I am a PhD student majoring in Language, Literary and Technology, and the app helps me a lot with my research. I highly recommend the app for those who are English teachers and researchers focusing on English pronunciation. Thank you to the author. 👍

Needs subscripstion

You cannot use this app unless you pay for subscription. This is useless unless you are willing to spend money. They don’t even have a sample or free for a certain period of time. USELESS APP.

Response from developer

We appreciate your feedback. We do offer the "k" for free for users to try before subscribing to the App. If you would like further access to Speech Sounds Visualized on a trial basis, please reach out to us and we would be happy to help you!

Great app!

Thank you for your review! We appreciate it

Useful but omits some phonemes

I just purchased this app. I like the fluoroscopic video of the sounds being produced. However, the number of vowels depicted are insufficient (there are about 18 vowels in English if you include the 'r'-colored vowels). They completely left out the /ɔ/, as in 'caught, bought, saw, all' and substitute /ɑ/ as in 'hot', which is probably due to the dialect of the woman who is modeling the phonemes. She most likely doesn't have the vowel /ɔ/ in her personal repertoire, so it is just omitted. However, the vowels in 'cot' vs. 'caught' are separate phonemes in Standard American and RP English! I purchased the R-sound Combinations for an extra 99 cents which includes the diphthongs with the post-vocalic 'r', but what they call the Initial R is not the consonant, rather the post-vocalic 'r' as in 'word, turn, learn, girl, fern'. They left out the retroflexed liquid /r/ as in 'red'. Overall, this is a useful app, however it is deficient in its representation of the entire phonemic inventory of Standard English dialects.

New Phonetics

Thank you for adding phonetics! You have just elevated yourself and I love it!

Response from developer

Thank you for your review and we're so glad you like the phonetics version!

Very very basic. Not worth $10

This app looks like it's so much more but it literally only goes over vowels and a few consents. That's it.

Response from developer

Thank you for your constructive review. There are actually 27 consonants, 12 vowels, and 6 R-sound combinations to study and practice. This summer we are adding additional words for practice and also 2 sentences for each phoneme.

Useful for children with speech challenges

My 6 year-old loves this app and uses it frequently. While using it for the first time, I noticed a marked improvement in the pronunciation of his challenging speech sounds. The combination of the visual instruction with clear audible sounds and the interactive platform all make for a great tool for children. He loves this app and so do I!

Response from developer

Thank you for your review! So glad your child loves it. Speech Sounds Visualized was developed primarily for older children and adults, however some younger children enjoy recording themselves, and this helps them to improve their speech. Keep it going!

LOVE IT

Such a fantastic idea! I’ve used this app with kiddos as a visual aid for speech sounds and adults as we discuss structures of swallow function! So glad to have this in my toolbox- highly recommend!

Response from developer

Thank you! So glad that you have also found it useful for work with adults who have dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing. Visuals like this can really help.
