Spektrum DXE Programmer

Good app that works as advertised. Connection works fast and reliable when using the Bluetooth adapter in the DXE for connectivity. Changeable programming features are grouped together and setting changes are familiar to AS3X receiver changes. Using the app allows the DXE to be quickly and easily reconfigured for multiple aircraft along with easy setup for compatibility with forward programming receivers.

Get An Electronics Degree

About as bad as an app can get. Far too great a gap between the app and what an average, but conscientious, rc flyer can be expected to know. Frustrating when all you want to do is fly the plane and all the poorly explained electronics get in the way.

Useless

This app is a complete waste of time, you can’t change settings like expo etc. And it’s just horrible to try and use.
Stick to programming your DXE via a lap top and the USB programming cable!
Expected more from Horizon Hobby than this, very disappointing

Useless

I have a micro timber and I need to get this USB adapter Because when I bound it with my DXE the flaps were down in the flap switch was not bound. When I assigned the flaps on my dxe to the flaps switch on the app (and changed nothing else) the throttle is on the elevator! The throttle is assigned to the throttle channel but the elevator controls it. No matter what I change, throttle is on the elevator. Useless! I would give zero stars if I could.

Doesn’t connect to iPhone 11

How can Horizon/Spektrum sell a product that requires two cables that you have to purchase separately, then use this app that doesn’t work? This is so frustrating

How

To clarify what's going on here. When it asks to connect to Bluetooth, you need the little Bluetooth connector that plugs into the back of your radio.

Is this a joke?

Turned my transmitter useless because the app crashes pretty much every 5 seconds. Used the app for 5 minutes and it refuses to finish updating my firmware so the transmitter is stuck in update mode till the end of time for all i know. Just throw this app in the trash

Just doesn't work

Bought a DXe. Worked for one day, then never worked again. Good job spektrum :/

1990’s UX in 2019

Very unimpressed.

Latest version

Latest version works well with Bluetooth. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays good after next IOS update!

So so bad

This app will try your Patience to the max and horizon isn't much more help either don’t waste your time get yourself a futaba

Lack of instructions

I have a UMX Timber and needed to control the flaps, or else they stay down all the time by default.
Was extremely frustrated with the app, since the USB cord doesn’t work with a Mac so the $14 Bluetooth cord is the only option.
Once I was informed by Horizon Hobby that you have to go to “settings”, “about”, and change the the app mode to advanced, it opened up the ability to control the flaps through the channel setup under model setup.
How difficult would it be to let users know that up front?
Anyway, now the app can be used as intended for me.

Terrible app iOS version Only.

You cannot import or export models from this app. Both the Windows and Android versions allow it. You can’t save your models for use on another transmitter later. You can’t even import the pre-configured models from spectrum.

Useless? Or just bad instructions?

I have an iPhone 8 and bought a DXe controller having been told it is Bluetooth compatible. Now it looks like there is no Bluetooth and there is no link cable that will work my phone. So Spektrum what is going on?

Horrible experience

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I spent $80 on this transmitter and the app doesn’t even load. I wouldn’t recommend this to my worst enemy. Never ever again.

Difficult UI - Horrible

Honestly this is probably the worst mobile app I’ve ever used on either iOS or Android. Whoever did this has no idea how to organize a user interface or make a decent product. It’s really too bad, because the radio connectivity of the transmitter is fine. It’s just this programming interface that is horrible. This still could be a great product if someone would redo these DXe apps.

I’m new to the hobby and this is my first experience with Spektrum. Since this product has been out for two years and is still this bad, it seems very clear they don’t support their products or users. I will be highly unlikely to ever buy another Spektrum transmitter again as a result of this experience.

Needs files added for preset models

It’s a pain to down load model files off the spektrum website and then add them to the transmitter and then turn around and hook up your phone just to save them. Please add the files to the app. It’s only like 8mb for all of them. Please stop half heartily supporting your product. This could be a great radio.

Does the job but...

Horrible horrible user experience. Bad user flow for connecting a device, poor navigation in the app, unclear how to work most of the UI. It's as if they outsourced this app to a third party who had never used (and never will) the actual product.

This is so typical of drivers and/or setup software for consumer devices (like printers, Bluetooth headsets, digital voice recorders, and now this thing).

Below this is a review with a few important tips. (1) you have to explicitly enable the microphone for this app in Settings or it won't work at all, (2) I had to turn off Siri because comically Siri kept interrupting and trying to "help" with whatever beeps and bloops are being transmitted on the audio cable.

iPhone Settings for DXe Programmer

This works on my iPhone 5C, iOS 10.2.1. Load DXe Programmer App from iTunes. Go to Settings on iPhone, scroll all the way down to the bottom and click on Spectrum Transmitter. Turn Microphone on (this activates the receptacle that you plug the programming cable into). Connect cable to DXe and iPhone. The first synch should be from the transmitter to the iPhone, among other things this lets you change the transmitter mode. If you don't activate the microphone, synching doesn't work. There is an iPhone/DXe tutorial on You Tube.

Caused crashes

This app almost never connects to the DXe and when it does it fails at programming resulting in signal loss to rx. Its caused several crashes due to connection loss and i'm thinking about how I can make the manufacturer pay for the loss in parts.
