Signed up. Now stumped.

this is a very frustrating experience. I am unable to connect the account. I signed up for with the app that I downloaded. Not sure where to go from here. I’ll make sure I immediately suspend any subscription.

Response from developer

Thanks for the candid feedback. We agree that the original user interface felt dated and was more complicated than it should have been. Since your review, we've rebuilt the experience from the ground up. The app now features modern navigation, smooth animations, improved responsiveness, and a completely redesigned web management platform that's much easier to use. Your feedback helped us get there, so thank you for helping us improve Split-Flap TV.

Promising, but immature

Took me a couple of hours (!) of try and error plus tech support to get it to work at all, tried iPhone with Apple TV and iPad. The web interface looks like an early beta - convoluted design, very laggy (as in, easily up to a minute), no 1:1 text to display interface for predictable results. Way too many technical hurdles and way too short a free trial to get this to work and feel good about paying the pretty hefty subscription price. Not market-ready by any standards.

Thank you for the honest review. Looking back, we have to agree with several of the points you raised. At the time, the setup process and management interface were more complex than they should have been. The good news is that Split-Flap TV has evolved substantially since then. We've completely redesigned the app and rebuilt the web portal with a strong focus on usability, responsiveness, and simplicity. What once felt like an early beta is now a much more polished experience, with smooth animations, faster updates, and user-friendly tools for managing displays and content. Feedback like yours played an important role in shaping these changes, so thank you for helping us improve the product.

Promising, but more like an early beta

Took me a couple of hours (!) of try and error plus tech support to get it to work at all, tried iPhone with Apple TV and iPad. Still no sound, and the web interface looks like it’s an early beta - convoluted design, very laggy (as in, easily up to a minute), no 1:1 text to display interface for predictable results. Not market-ready by any standards.

Promising, but never got it to work

Tried to create a dashboard on both my Apple TV and iPad - could not get it to work. Finally got past the Device Not Listed screen, but still none of the On/Off buttons on the Boards webpage can be triggered, they’re always grayed out. It’s too hard and too obscure a process to get a success experience with this app/webpage combo. Too bad, I was really looking forward to this experience and would even pay a subscription if I ever managed to get it to work at all.

Probably some kind of social experiment.

The UI is absurd to the point that it must be a spoof. Opening an account is an endless loop of sign up for subscription then log in then sign up for subscription. Device ID is obscured by the notch in iPhones, but even if you figure out a way around that, putting in 20-30 random digits and letters with occasional dashes proved impossible. Why can’t you cut and paste? Because it’s a social experiment. Why can’t you type in a 5 character ID? Because they’re just messing with you. Why can’t you have an ordinary password? Because you’re a dupe. Why can’t you use a google suggested password? Because this app wasn’t made to be used.
I doubt there’s anything difficult about a text animation app, and hopefully someone will make one that works, saving everyone the 3k that a Vestaboard costs.

The app is fully operational and you have to read some instructions. The device ID is like a unique mac address that you have to use, it is not like setting a password. Do you want to see it in action? Check out this great video: https://youtu.be/IplakcX8EGo Or check out why Jay-Z is loving it in his store in NYC. https://splitflaptv.com/blog/jay-zs-visit-and-evaluation-of-the-split-flap-tv/ So this is not a social experiment, but you need to follow the instructions. You have to start from our website, and not start from the app here on your device. The reason for that is that the account is created and manage from a second device. See?

Not worth the download

Company is poorly run. Personal information (full names and locations) were displayed on their front page randomly. Users have zero ability to pause, modify or (most importantly) cancel the subscription without writing to the company.

Sorry to disappoint! We have many happy customers running our service and are working 24/7 for our customers worldwide, with nice features to bring this information board back to life. Check out for example https://splitflaptv.com/blog/rocnation-paper-planes-shop-new-york/ and https://splitflaptv.com/blog/5-splitflaps-at-daniels-bakery/ Cancelling and modifying a subscription is of course available for everyone at https://splitflaptv.com/my-account/. You can cancel already on day 1, completely online, and without contacting us. Weird that some people put more effort into writing a negative remark than looking or asking for a solution. We continue to work hard for our current and future customers. Try it out yourself and try to find the cancel button. I challenge everyone :-)
