About
Bringing satellite radio back to earth.
Requires an Apple Music subscription.
Sputnik follows satellite radio's music stations — '80s hits, alternative, yacht rock, coffeehouse acoustic, and about 150 more — and plays every song they play, start to finish, from Apple Music. You get each station's taste and flow, without the static, the talk breaks, or a radio subscription.
HOW IT WORKS
• Tune in and you join the current song where the station is, like turning on a radio.
• Every song plays all the way through. Then Sputnik moves to the station's next song, gaplessly.
• When the station cuts to a DJ break or an ad, Sputnik fills the gap with a song the station played recently that you haven't heard yet.
• Missed something? Scroll back through the station's recent plays and tap any song to hear it. Skip forward to rejoin the station.
BUILT TO FEEL AT HOME
• A full Now Playing screen tinted from the album art, with a scrubber, volume, and the station's recent plays underneath.
• Favorites: your starred stations as big artwork tiles, each showing the song on air right now.
• Stations: the whole dial in one list, with every channel's current song.
• Search by station name, genre, or channel number.
• Recent: every song you've heard, across all your stations.
HEAR IT, KEEP IT
Tap the heart on any song to save it. Liked songs collect in their own tab and sync to a "Sputnik Liked Songs" playlist in your Apple Music library, so the song from this morning's drive is waiting for you later.
MADE FOR THE CAR
Sputnik works with CarPlay: your favorite stations as an artwork strip, every category on the dial, Recently Played, and a like button on Now Playing. Or just ask Siri: "Play [station] on Sputnik."
IPHONE, IPAD, AND MAC
On iPad and Mac, the station guide and the player sit side by side. Your favorites and liked songs sync between devices through iCloud.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no ads, no tracking. Sputnik doesn't collect any data. Your favorites and likes live in your own iCloud.
GOOD TO KNOW
• An Apple Music subscription is required to play songs. Without one, Sputnik says so before you start and offers Apple's own sign-up.
• Sputnik plays songs from the Apple Music catalog. It does not stream any radio broadcast and doesn't need a radio subscription.
• Now-playing information comes from XMPlaylist, an independent service that tracks what SiriusXM's music channels play. Occasionally a station plays something Apple Music doesn't have; Sputnik skips it.

Made for iPhone Duo: • Open it like a book and the stations and player sit side by side, one on each page. • Stand it up half-open and the player takes the top half, with your stations on the bottom. • Stand it up like a tent and the outer screen becomes a now-playing display you can read across the room. Fixes for listening in the car: • Turning the car off now pauses, so a song no longer picks up on your phone’s speaker afterward. • Tuning in mid-song starts right where the station is, instead of from the top or stuck at 0:00. • If you start a podcast or video between songs, Sputnik waits for you to press Play instead of talking over it.
