BRoken after update to 18.1.1, no support
Was working alright until I updated my ipad to ios18.1.1 then SRTool failed to load or work, just a blank white screen. Contacted app support but so far no answer. Very frustrating.
Full of bugs, not working properly
It was working fine at first, but now I can't even click on all of the subtitles to edit them, nor can I add a video.
Amazing value for a powerful tool!
I'm amazed at how powerful, easy and intuitive this editor makes it to create or refine subtitle files!
Once a subtitle file is opened and you've imported a reference video to go with it, you can:
• Drag a dialog box left or right on the timeline to change the timing of that subtitle
• Drag the left or right edges of a dialog box to change the start or end time of a subtitle, while getting on an on-screen preview of how the scene shifts in the video align with the start or end times of the subs.
• Edit the subtitle text for line breaks, spelling, etc.
• Add, split, or remove subtitles with ease
• Play the video faster or slower to more precisely refine the timings
• With the paid version, burn the subtitles into the video file
I've rated this 5 stars for its outstanding power and value, but I do have a wish list of improvements I'd like to see:
• Make the audio waveform larger and easier to see rather than hiding it in grey on black behind the dialog boxes! If this takes too much space, then add a button to hide/show the waveform. This would GREATLY help in timing the start of the subs to match the spoken words. I'd be happy to pay for this one!
• Add text formatting commands, at least to add or remove italics to highlighted text, as I see no way to do that at present.
• Add a button to more easily add song notes before and after the highlighted text, to better hande subtitles for song lyrics.

Useless
Can't even do the simplest things. All I needed is to move the times for all lines by ~3 seconds and it can't even do that. Can only go and adjust the time for every line one by one. Ridiculous.
Useless without instructions
I have a video in my camera roll. I want to create an SRT file for it. I have no clue how to do that with SRTool. When you open the app it looks like the Files app. I can’t see my camera roll and if I export the video from my camera roll to Files I can’t select the video. This app doesn’t help you at all. You either know how to use it or you can’t use it. Utterly useless without some instructions.

I agree. "Potentially Great"
Nice interface, and seemed like it would be great, but the problem that the "potentially great" review by Matato504 wrote 2 years ago, seems to persist.
I don't like the "apply changes" feature, it should just save them automatically and not need to constantly save "apply" "apply" "apply" when editing.
Plus, if you don't hit apply and go to a different subtitle, then it carries over that text and will change the other subtitle. Very strange.
The developer responded 2 years ago, saying they fixed this, but looks like that's not the case to me.

Good but lacking
Great little app but there seems to be a glitch where sometimes it doesn't let me change the duration of certain frames, unless I first move the ones next to it. Like if a frame is touching two other frames but I want to shorten it, I first have to edit oen of the the other two so they're not touching it, then I can edit the duration. Strange...
Otherwise, it's very easy to use and good. :-)

- When I click on a subtitle frame to edit the text in there, it shows me only what's in the very first subtitle frame - not what's in the one I want to edit. Therefore, if I want to edit the text in there, I have to re-type the entire sentence or phrase first.
- There's no keyboard shortcut to delete a subtitle frame

Simplest, most flexible subtitling tool
It's hard to find a tool which doesn't rely on uploading my content to a server.
I wanted to create some bilingual subtitles and also have them be very flexible so I could experiment with some new subtitle styles, in terms of grouping, text styles, and timing.
The output of this tool is an SRT file, and you can write simple scripts to modify if you want to change things across all entries without manual labor. Much easier than Final Cut Pro or anything with proprietary formats.
It does have some UI quirks at the very basic level. Keyboard shortcuts for styles don't work. The main editing controls are weird. When you select a subtitle on the current timeline, the text is copied to your "editor". You don't actually change the subtitle entry until you "apply" the change to copy it back. While editing, if you move the current time marker outside of the existing entry time span, you can create a new entry with what you have in the controls.
This was weird but actually worked well for me since my subtitles changed color based on the word in the sentence and I could make copies very easily. It would be nice if it follow the MacOS UI conventions for duplicating things though.
This thing saved me so much time I'd actually be willing to pay much more than $3. Like maybe the author should ask for shareware-style payments after a certain time period.

Helpful program
The program is very helpful for submitting my projects which required captions. I wish you could see the audio waveform on the entire project on the free version but its not a huge inconvenience. I also wish you could see the duration (in seconds) of the captions and the duration between the captions. But otherwise this is a great program!

promising, but seems to have some issues
Long titles display as two lines in the app, then when when I try to export a video w/ subtitles, they are showing as one long line & words are running off the screen.

Unfinished app, I guess. Really good at SRT syncing though.
Good little software for syncing SRT. If that's all you want, then this app is for you otherwise look elsewhere.

Dear User, I released the version 1.1.0, which now contains the ability of changing font attributes and color. Whit this update you are also able to change the position of every frame. Thank you for using SRTool, keep looking for updates, the burning feature is coming soon, like other useful features too.
Potentially Great
SR Tool has the potential to be one of the best SRT editors available. It's fast, stable and does a great job handling timing. It falls short in terms of transcription, however, because it's too easy to lose work. The caption is automatically selected where the playhead is. If you type a caption and select a previous caption without hitting "Apply Changes," you lose the caption you just typed. This is very easy to do when you're scrubbing through trying to make sure you got every word right. It also can't be undone. I can't think of a circumstance where, "Automatically, permanently, delete everything I just typed" would be a desireable default setting. I don't want to be someone who complains about a free thing, but this could be a 5 star app worth that's worth paying for if that were fixed.

You can now seeking trough the timeline without losing the content, and the textbox will be not auto set again, until you don’t press apply, or you don’t clear the textbox.
