Thank you for you comment. I understand your concern, and I’m happy to clarify what happened with your previous Steelpan PRO license. The Steelpan PRO app has now moved to a subscription based model (monthly, yearly, or lifetime). This change became necessary because Apple continues to introduce new iOS versions and hardware updates. Older app frameworks eventually stop functioning on these new platforms, and developers must continuously rebuild and upgrade apps so they remain compatible. In order to keep Steelpan PRO working on Apple’s latest iOS, we had to redevelop and update the app. Along with Apple’s annual developer fees, these continuous upgrades require significant investment. Without updating, Apple would remove the old app from the App Store entirely meaning that once a user updates their device or its iOS, the app would no longer work. For example, the older version still works on my personal iPad only because I have not updated that device or its operating system. If a customer chooses not to update their device, the older version will continue to function as long as that device remains unchanged. However, in order to ensure you and the wider steelpan community can continue enjoying a functional, up-to-date app, we decided to redevelop Steelpan PRO v2 with ongoing support and improvements. Moving to a subscription model is what allows us to maintain, upgrade, and future proof the app every time Apple releases a new iOS version. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this transition may have caused. The alternative would have been to stop updating the app altogether, which would eventually result in it disappearing from the store and no longer working on updated devices. Steelpan PRO can only continue to grow and stay viable with the support of our steelpan community, and we truly appreciate your understanding. Steelpan PRO has since been completely redeveloped as Version 2 and moved to a subscription model (monthly, yearly, or lifetime). This transition became necessary because Apple continuously updates iOS and hardware, and older app frameworks eventually stop functioning on newer systems. To ensure the app remains compatible, stable, and available in the App Store, we had to rebuild it using Apple’s current development standards. Ongoing compatibility updates, Apple’s annual developer fees, server costs, and continued improvements require sustained investment. Moving to a subscription model is now a standard practice across the app industry, as it allows developers to maintain, update, and future-proof apps rather than allowing them to become obsolete and eventually removed. The previous version will continue to function on devices that have not updated beyond the iOS it was built for. However, once a device updates to newer iOS versions, older unsupported frameworks may no longer operate properly. This is outside of a developer’s control and is part of Apple’s evolving ecosystem. That said, I truly value early supporters of Steelpan PRO.
