What's New in Strat Mobile

2.2.0

November 13, 2019

v. 2.2.0 -- 13 November 2019 This new version brings enhanced iOS 13 compatibility as well as a few important bug fixes. The iOS 13 sharing panel will no longer freeze the app, maps have been improved, and a bug in the GPS thickness calculation routine that would trigger under certain conditions has been fixed. Also, this version can now import Strat Desktop data on the clipboard, which was broken in recent versions, and you can now add formation names to your data. Though there is no significant new functionality in this version, you should definitely update if you are using recent versions of iOS on your device.

FAQ

What is Strat Mobile?

Strat Mobile is a free application for iOS devices designed to help geologists measure and record stratigraphic sections in the field. It offers various methods for measurement and data logging.

How does Strat Mobile help measure sections?

Strat Mobile allows measurement using the device's camera as a Jacob Staff, a traditional Jacob Staff with strike and dip detection, or a tape measure with manual input for azimuth and slope. It automatically calculates thickness based on dip and eye height or entered data.

Can I define my own rock types in Strat Mobile?

Yes, you can define an unlimited number of lithology types within Strat Mobile, assigning them specific colors and widths for drawing your section and tagging observations.

Does Strat Mobile work offline?

The program will work on iPads lacking cellular data, but these devices cannot be used in automatic data collection mode due to fewer sensors. Core measurement and logging features are available.

What kind of statistics does Strat Mobile provide?

Strat Mobile provides basic statistics on the measured section, including the thicknesses and percentages of each defined lithology type. This helps in analyzing the composition of the rock layers.

Where can I see my measured data?

You can view the locations of your entire sections, measured intervals, and samples on a satellite image or road map directly within the Strat Mobile application.

Is Strat Mobile suitable for beginners in geology?

Strat Mobile is designed for field measurements, which can be complex. While it offers automated features, a basic understanding of geological principles and stratigraphy would be beneficial for effective use.

How often is Strat Mobile updated?

The latest version of Strat Mobile is 2.2.0, which was last updated on November 13, 2019. This indicates the app has not received updates in several years.
