super spielprinzip, seit dem letzte update unbrauchbar
immer sehr gern gespielt, aber seit dem letzten update nicht mehr performant auf einiger hardware. da fragt man sich wozu? abschalten kann man das wasser was aber nicht viel bringt. wo ich meine farbe einstelle finde ich nicht. neue einheiten verteilen sich automatisch obwohl manuell eingestellt ist. leider nicht mehr spielbar in aktueller form.
wieso die änderungen nicht auf den neuen teil beschränken und diesen hier inhaltlich so belassen?!

Watching computer opponents battle after elimination
Glad to see this game updated & actively maintained now! Having the option to go back to the original is nice, but I’m fine with the changes, more refreshing! One thing that seems to be missing from the updated play (unless it’s hidden somewhere I haven’t found): in the old game, when defeated, I had the option to watch the remaining computer opponents battle it out, that was relaxing after a battle & great on a large board with several players battling! Perhaps add an option on the defeat screen to just watch the outcome?? Otherwise I’m having much fun, glad I kept it on my devices all these years, playing every so often, now much more!! Thanks!!

New version is battery-hungry
My phone really warms up when using the new version but being able to go to the old version is a delight.
All the new witty text is rather annoying... It's not like one or two witty comments, it's *all* of the comments that happen in the game, which is really way too much.

The egotistical gaslight update
This is the strangest update to an app or game I've ever seen. Hides the original game behind a long press of the logo, and makes everybody play an inferior version with worse UI and gameplay. Weird.

Just yesterday I was searching for a strategy game. Then John Gruber mentioned Lex Friedman had rejuvenated this. You made my day.
It’s back! And a free upgrade too.
I bought this app in 2009, when iPhones ran on coal and we all spoke Latin, and apparently this is still a free upgrade! Amazing. Thanks so much for reviving this stone cold classic, Lex Friedman!

This has consistently been a go to game I have played since it was first released. The recent update is fantastic and improved on something that was already close to perfection. Now it is even closer. Thank you for doing this. I wondered if you are able to generate map sizes that utilise or fill an entire iPad screen? This would make the game perfect for me, but won’t change that I love this game if you can’t.

It used to be a game I couldn’t put down, now I can’t pick it up as it’s become “unplayable” when compared to the “original”.
At least give us an option to return to the original - no stupid names, no distracting comments, no water, no psychedelic colours.

It’s back!
Hey thanks for updating the game for modern devices. I tried Strategery 2 and it didn’t capture the feel of the original. Great job!
New option good
Since the upgrade to have the choice to play the classic version of the game, I increased my rating to 5 stars. Always good to have options.
Classic option now available
I lost years of stats but I’m grateful Lex brought Classic strategery back. This has been my “go to” iPad game for at least a decade. I’ve never known a developer to respond so positively to review input. Thank you.

Like some other reviewers, I’ve played this game nearly once a day forever. I was excited for the update until I saw it. Perhaps it’s good on its own merit, but it is not the same. I was relieved that a classic mode was available but that turned out to be even more disappointing.
Update: I have discovered that if you exit the game and open it again it does truly revert to the old gameplay. Thank you.
I also noticed after playing the updated version that the phone becomes warm from all those little optical flourishes.

I prefer the classic version
The upgrade made everything visually overloaded. This used to be my favorite game by far. Now, even the classic version feels hectic. The animation speed is too fast. I used to play it to calm down, like meditation.

Personally, not a fan of the new version, look, menus, etc, but because you restored the classic version along with my stats, I give you 5 stars again and wish you luck. Please don’t ever drop the option to keep playing the beloved classic version.
