The Most Complete and Practical Subscription Tracker I’ve Used

After trying several subscription management apps, including Subscriptions, Orbit, MarkBuy, and Yosum, SubList is easily the one I’m most satisfied with.

The app provides a very complete and flexible system for adding and managing subscriptions. It supports a wide range of payment methods, offers plenty of customization, and makes it easy to organize a large number of subscriptions into categories. Billing intervals are especially flexible: weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly schedules are all supported, and each interval can be set to repeat every specific number of weeks, months, quarters, or years. This makes it suitable for subscriptions that do not follow a standard billing cycle.

The $12.99 one-time purchase for both the iOS and macOS versions also feels very reasonable. For me, the Mac app is not just an optional extra. Since I manage a fairly large and varied collection of subscriptions, adding, editing, and organizing them on a computer is considerably more convenient than doing everything on a phone.

SubList also offers several useful ways to assign icons. It includes a solid collection of built-in service icons, can use application icons directly on macOS, can retrieve icons from various store links, and also allows users to upload their own images. This makes it easy to find an appropriate icon even for less common services.

Dashboards and calendar views are becoming essential features in this category, and apps that still lack them are starting to feel outdated. SubList handles both well. The information is clearly presented, the calendar is useful for reviewing upcoming payments, and the app performs smoothly overall. Its core interface is also clean and visually polished.

The visual design is not necessarily the best in the category. For example, some of the default category background images are honestly a little unattractive. I think solid colors would work better as the default, or the developer could provide a more cohesive set of AI-generated background images.

That said, subscription management is primarily a utility, and what matters most is whether the underlying logic is sound, the workflow is complete, and important functionality is not missing. SubList performs very well in those areas. It does not feel like a loosely assembled or casually “vibe-coded” app. Many competing apps are either too lightweight, missing important features, less intuitive, visually rougher, or affected by stability and usability issues. SubList feels much more complete and dependable.

Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with the combination of features, pricing, cross-platform support, and usability. My main feature request would be a tagging system in addition to categories, which would make it easier to organize subscriptions across multiple dimensions. Even without tags, however, SubList is already the best subscription management app I’ve used.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the detailed review and for comparing SubList against alternatives — it means a lot to hear it's the one you're most satisfied with. I appreciate the honest feedback on the category background images. You're right that they could look more cohesive, and I'm already working on improving their quality and visual consistency. Solid colors as a default is a great suggestion I'll take into consideration as well. Thanks also for the tagging system idea — that's a feature I've been considering, and your input reinforces it. Glad to have you on board across both platforms.
