About
Subnext Player plays media from sources you connect yourself. It hosts no content, ships no catalogue, and has no server of its own.
CONNECT YOUR OWN SOURCES
Plex
Link a Plex account and browse your libraries, including servers other people have shared with you. Multiple servers merge into one library, and you choose which of your Plex libraries appear under Movies and Series. Browse shows down to seasons and episodes, and search your server directly.
Videos on this device
Play the videos already in your photo library. You choose whether Subnext Player sees your whole library or only the items you select, and it only ever reads them.
Network shares
Connect an SMB share on a NAS or a PC on your home network and browse it like a folder.
BUILT AROUND NOT HAVING A BACKEND
No account to create, because there is nothing to sign up for. No ads. No tracking or analytics. Your credentials stay in the iOS Keychain on the device, and your viewing history never leaves it. The app has no server, so there is nowhere for your data to be sent.
EVERYDAY THINGS THAT SHOULD JUST WORK
Continue watching, picking up where you stopped
Favourites across every source you have connected
Search that covers all of your sources at once
Five themes, including one that follows your system light and dark setting, plus an accent colour
OPEN SOURCE
Subnext Player is developed in the open, under the Apache 2.0 licence, at github.com/amitrke/relay-player

What's New in Subnext Player
1.0.5
October 14, 2026
Search is reworked, with filters, release dates and suggestions, and it can look through your whole library. Save Plex titles on your device and watch them with no network. Copy your settings from one device to another on the same network. Movies and Series now show as rows, one per library or category, and big category groups can be browsed by letter. Your library is kept between launches and refreshed in the background. TV remote fixes: each poster is one stop, Right stays in its row, and a live channel that freezes reconnects.
