My kids like it
Good app!
So well done!
A really well done app with clear explanations!
Love graphics so much!

Great app!!!!
My 4 year old loves subtracting on this app and he as excelled at it
love this app
This app is cute and fun to use. My children love all the different apps from Operatio :)
Love it, but....
My students use this and other apps by Operation during math time. They absolutely love them! I have a student who is struggling with subtraction. This app allows her the opportunity to visually see the little sardines disappear as she is subtracting. The game is engaging. However, I just wish there was a way to block out negative numbers. If there is a way, I haven't figured it out. :)

negative numbers for basic subtraction
I question why the publishers of this app think that it is appropriate to have negative numbers in an app obviously for beginners. My children found the negative numbers, represented by more fish, really confusing. As an example, my 7 year old is now wondering why 3 - 7 = 4. It would be better to limit the numbers subtracted to equal or less than the first number, but I can't find that option.

My 5-year-old loves it!
My youngest has picked up pretty quickly on basic subtraction thanls to this game. She can play it on her own and enjoys it!
Good but needs some improvements
First of all, as some were saying, there is no option to block negative numbers. Second, unlike the multiplication, the user is not able to see the math problem above the answer. For example, in multiplication, there is 2x3 above the answer of 6, but in substraction answer of 3, there is no explanation of 5-2, something like that. I think being able to see the math problem is important rather than just the answer. So please fix them and i'll give you 5 stars. Thank you.

Bright fun way to learn
I bought this app for my son with autism after he successfully used Adding Apples but I was a little skeptical that he would have the same success. I was wrong. I sat with him to explain one round to him and immediately his interest was held with the beautiful bright colorful graphics Operatio are known for. My son watched me as I showed him that the fishes were first 8 and then someone ate the fishies and now how many we're left. He did so well and was so captivated and was excited to build his piggy bank. Subtracting Sardines is a great app for kids with autism who are visual learners but also good for all kids learning how to subtract. Operatio have never let me down. 5 stars.

Wonderful App!
We have Subtracting Sardines and Adding Apples and the kids absolutely love them! They along with myself enjoy the positive reinforcements and funny characters that they don't realize they are actually learning something! I recommend all their apps (depending on age - as I am sure we'll be adding the Multiplying Acorns soon!) and enjoy watching your kids have fun and laugh/enjoy while learning math skills!!!

Love it. It is great fun.
Could B Gr8...
Need to add a 0 (zero) on the calc for 10 + ___
Best Subtraction APP
This is by far the best app I have found for teaching subtraction to my son. It's cute and engaging, maintains my son's interest and very clearly demonstrates and teaches the skill

My son loves the fish being turned to bones you made learning fun for him THANK YOU :)
Excellent!
oh my goodness, you can even do negative integers! I love the calculator feel, and the graphics are just so darn adorable!
Wish this was around when I was little...
The modular approach of this app series is perfect. Switching apps helps our daughter visualize that we are doing a different concept, which is so helpful when first learning. It's great that the sardine visual is so different than the apples, because it really helps my daughter understand that it's a different process being performed. She thoroughly enjoys the graphics and giggles while learning math--how often does that happen!

Super Sardines
Subtracting Sardines is a wonderful app that helps primary level students of students with special needs. The app has a simple design that younger students catch on to and enjoy. The only thing negative I can say about Subtracting Sardines is that it allows you to take away a larger number than you started with. Not a great idea for younger students or students that struggle. Don't let this little negative impact your decision to buy this app. It is well worth the money.

LOVE, LOVE LOVE IT!!
LOVE IT! I can't say enough about this wonderful app. This app is wonderful for easily, clearly and concisely teaching the math concept! Buy this now ... and, while you're at it, buy them all - Adding Apple, Subtracting Sardines and Multiplying Acorns. I promise you'll love 'em like we do.
Engaging and educational
I love adding apples and when I started a subtraction unit I was excited to see Subtracting Sardines. It's a very simple concept but kids will play for hours. My only problem is that it allows kids to take away a larger number than they started with. Red sardines appear and the answer is a negative number. For a visual approach this doesn't work. It would be fine if we were hopping on a number line, but my first Graders don't understand that when you are dealing with real objects you can't take away more than you started with. Please add an option to lock negative numbers and I would give it 5 stars.

AWESOME Subtraction App
What We Liked:
When I heard that a subtraction app in the Tasty Math Facts series was in development, I wasn’t sure how it would handle subtraction conceptually, if it would deal with negative numbers etc. I can’t tell you how excited I was to see how they had found a way to so naturally represent negative numbers and subtraction in general with the fish, the bones, and the red fish. It might sound complicated in my description, but it really works, and is very simple.
I have NEVER formally taught my five-year-old subtraction, and she GETS Subtracting Sardines. Right from her very first go at it, all the way up to nines, even the negative numbers! She’s currently scoring 100% in this app, which blows me away. My eight-year-old has also been a tiny bit confused about negative numbers, but the way they are just so naturally built in makes it so simple for her, it’s just amazing. The girls actually prefer to work the reverse subtraction questions that lead to negative solutions because they like those red fish!
There is a lot of flexibility in this app; not only is it a great tool for both sit down teaching of math concepts, it’s also great fun for independent exploration and building confidence with visual representations of the problems before tackling abstract pen and paper problems. You can focus in on specific fact families or allow a free range of play across the entire app.
Like all the apps in this series the design is top-notch and the artwork is very well-done.
What We Didn’t Like:
I asked my girls if they liked this app as much as Adding Apples, and they said it was just a smidgen less fun because the fish are harder to play with, they’re slippery fellows in their ice chute and are harder to control. My five-year-old keeps trying to stack their ice blocks up but they always bounce away!
Overall:
Subtracting Sardines is the perfect math app to introduce subtraction to young children. It will help them build a conceptual understanding of the operation before they tackle the more abstract, numbers only math problems. This is really ideal for beginners, those who need hands-on manipulatives, and any child struggling to understand subtraction conceptually, and it’s fun to boot!
I received a promo code.
