Easy to learn, Hard to master
I’ve had it for a year and a half now, I even downloaded it on my GF phone to play. I came across this app because I just started to get into watching grand sumo and had a hankering for a sumo game. This game scratched that itch. Not only did I get to play but I also learned some of the kamarite along the way.
I usually play when I’m at the airport or on public transit, to pass the time.
Just learning the controls takes a little while to get used to, but once you learn them the game really takes off.
It took me two tournaments to get the hang of what I was doing.
Very appreciative of the developer for taking the time to make this gem. I’m sure it wasn’t easy getting all those techniques to actually work how he wanted.
Secondly, I have a pipe dream suggestion, I’m no game developer, so I’m not sure how difficult it would be for you to implement any of these ideas, but I figured I’d ask.
Have you considered having a career mode, where you can customize your wrestler make them different sizes, the ability to pick our stats in the beginning, make them faster if they are smaller , or a tall and strong belt grabbing extraordinaire, Like our Yokozuna.
The ability to have names, maybe give our opponents random generated names. change the wrestlers skin color, maybe add some distinguishing features like sideburns or bushy eyebrows, so we remember that the bushy eyebrow’d yellow mawashi kicked my butt three tournaments in a row. Next tournament I shall have my revenge.
Just an idea I had while playing that I thought would make this game more immersive. If it’s impossible for this game, I understand.
But is there a possibility that you would consider making A Sumoscience 2 and implement said features. After all you said that Sumoscience was your first baby, so maybe now that you're a polished game developer and have your sumo degree the sequel is your next challenge. lol here’s to dreaming. Again Mr. Chang thanks for making this game. I’ve enjoyed every second I’ve played.

I am glad that you enjoyed the game. Yes, it was a lot of work to get everything working. And thanks for your suggestions. I think the idea of making the opponents distinctive might be doable. Maybe some could be better at throwing, while others would be better at pushing. And maybe bigger guys might be harder to move, but also slower. And each tournament, they would return in a slightly different order. I am pretty busy at the moment, but this idea seems like a good step forward, so I will think about it some more. Thanks.
The greatest sumo game out there

Thanks a lot! I am really happy that sumo fans like the game. This was the very first game that I have ever made and it started rough (and is still a bit rough). But I am happy with the game play now. When I started, I enjoyed sumo, but I didn't know that much about it, but now I feel like a sumo PhD. The game gives you a deeper insight into what sumo feels like. For example getting kachikoshi in a tournament in the game is pretty hard, so you can feel what it is like for the actual wrestlers to fight day after day for it. The previous version of the game had a bug, so the computer opponent was not doing slapdowns and throws. Tochinoshi is pretty good with the belt, so I am not sure the computer was so similar. Now the opponent should be more balanced with slapdowns, belt pushouts, and throws.
Lovely game.

I am glad that you like the game. When you fight in the tournament room, you can create a game center name and compare yourself with others on the leaderboards. At the present, the wrestlers do not have names and I am not sure about adding that as it would make things really complicated. I have changed the level 1 in the practice room (version 2.2) to make the opponent less aggressive, so hopefully people can practice there without losing all of the time.
Make more games like this

Thanks. It is good to hear that you are enjoying the game. I think there must be some boxing games with the same mechanics already. Grappling is harder, because there are so many possible techniques and choices.
You guys should take a good idea off this game and make a new one

Thanks for the suggestion. The hard part about freestyle wrestling is that there are a large number of possible moves that can be done at any one time. So it is hard to control the physics in a realistic way and it is hard to create controls that people can understand. Sumo works because it is much more limited in terms of the moves that you can do. I used to do freestyle wrestling in high school, so who knows, I might get inspired...
