About

How long can you stay in the sun before your skin risks burning? Sun Safely gives you a personal answer, not just a UV number. Pick your skin type, add your sunscreen, and the app turns today's UV forecast into an estimated time limit made for you. Start the sun timer when you head outside and see how much of your limit you have used, right on your lock screen. YOUR PERSONAL SUN TIME • Based on six skin types, from "always burns" to "never burns" • Follows how the UV index rises and falls through the day, not just the current value • Shows when the burn risk starts if it is still low right now SUNSCREEN, SURFACES AND ALTITUDE • Add your SPF to see how much longer you can stay out • Choose your surroundings: water, sand or snow reflect UV and shorten your time • Set your altitude, since UV gets stronger the higher you go, great for skiing and hiking SUN TIMER ON YOUR LOCK SCREEN • Start, pause and resume the timer as you move between sun and shade • Follow your progress on the lock screen without opening the app • Get a clear warning when you pass your estimated limit UV INDEX FORECAST • Current UV index with risk level and advice • Hourly UV chart for the rest of the day, so you can plan around the strongest hours CLEAR AND TRANSPARENT • "How it's calculated" explains every step, including why sunscreen is counted at half its labeled SPF (most people apply less than in lab tests) • Available in more than 70 languages • Light and dark mode • No account needed. Anonymous usage statistics can be turned off in Settings. Weather data provided by Apple Weather. IMPORTANT Sun Safely gives estimates for general guidance and is not medical advice. Skin damage can begin before redness appears, so seek shade well before your limit and always protect your skin.
