Free is good. Simple concept

Although I agree that the instructions could be better or even existing, I think that if you have solar panels you can figure it out. Basically, I think you orient the iPhone north south then pitch it and roll it so the iPhone position values match the calculated sun position. This point the device will be facing the sun.

Ok. Bad instructions

It would be nice is there was better instructions. As of yet I have not been able to figure out how to use it.

FAQ

What are the main tracking modes in SunTrack?

SunTrack offers two primary tracking modes: Equatorial (Polar) mount, which provides tilt and elevation parameters, and Altazimuth mount, which provides azimuth and elevation parameters. The Equatorial mount assumes the apparatus is pointed due south for accurate tracking.

How does SunTrack determine the sun's elevation and tilt?

The app utilizes the iPhone or iPod Touch's internal accelerometer to determine the elevation and tilt of the device's surface. This data is then used in conjunction with user-entered latitude and the current time to calculate the sun's position.

Can SunTrack automatically update my location?

Yes, both the Altazimuth and Equatorial displays support automatic updates from location services. iPhones can use Wi-Fi, GPS, and cellular data, while iPod Touches derive location from Wi-Fi internet connections.

What devices are required for the Altazimuth display's azimuth measurements?

For the Altazimuth display to accurately measure azimuth records using the magnetometer, you need an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4. Other devices, like the iPod Touch, will still support the older Polar or Equatorial parameters.

How accurate is SunTrack?

The app provides the error or difference between the calculated sun elevation and tilt and the actual elevation and tilt of the device's surface. This allows users to assess the accuracy of the tracking based on their device's orientation.

Is SunTrack available on multiple devices?

SunTrack is supported on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices. It was released on December 19, 2009, and its latest version is 1.8.1, last updated on November 2, 2025.

What is the age rating for SunTrack?

SunTrack has an age rating of 4+, making it suitable for a wide range of users. The app is developed by ColuzziWeb.

Does SunTrack have ads?

No, SunTrack does not contain advertisements. It is a free application with no in-app purchases.
