The biggest update to Surat yet. Here is what changed since 2.1. VOICE SEARCH, TUNED FOR KIRTAN Hold your phone toward the kirtan, or sing or recite a line yourself, and Surat finds the shabad. A near/far switch tunes the microphone for your own voice or a hall. Recognition runs entirely on your phone. Nothing you say leaves your device. MEMORIZATION THAT FOLLOWS ALONG Pick any bani, shabad or pangti and recite it out loud. The words light up as you say them, so you always know where you are and what comes next. On-device speech recognition EVERY WORD, EXPLAINED Long-press any word for its meaning from Prof. Sahib Singh, the line commentary of the Gurbani Arth Bhandar by Hari Singh Randhawe Wale, and the matching Mahan Kosh entry, in Punjabi and English. Save words you want to remember and review them as flashcards. TEEKAS IN ENGLISH The Sahib Singh and Faridkot Teeka Punjabi translations now have English renderings, verse by verse (AI-rendered and marked as such). Choose them alongside the existing English, Punjabi and Spanish translations. MAHAN KOSH IN ENGLISH All 61,236 entries, sense by sense, with the stories and origins behind the words. 28 MORE BANIS With thanks to the Damdami Taksal Sundar Gutka. Choose the version of a bani your tradition reads, and set your default once in Settings. NITNEM STREAKS AND WIDGETS Keep a daily Nitnem streak, with a freeze that covers a missed day. Put your daily banis on the home and lock screen: one tap marks a bani done, and a Listen button opens voice search straight from the widget. On iOS 18 you can also add Surat to Control Center or the Action button. Optional reminders per bani, and an end-of-day check-in.
