Not good

This is not worth the money. They only a few words to translate from English which is disappointing they should have all words. And they only have züridüütsch they don’t have other dialects. And lots of the words translate to hopp deutsch like for an example be careful in Swiss German is bazuuf and the app says Achtung

It appears that the dictionary does not meet your expectations. Therefore we suggest you ask Apple for a refund. Actually we do not see an entry where "be careful" is translated to "Achtung". In fact there is one translation in an example sentence for "to cover" where it is translated as "Pass uuf!" and another in "to be" where "be careful" is translated as "Bis vorsichtig!". Please also note that the number of dictionary entries and the focus on Swiss German as spoken in the Greater Zurich region is clearly indicated in the description in the App Store. As already mentioned before the support for other Swiss German dialects would require the creation of separate dictionary apps due to the considerable differences among the dialects.

Good, but limited vocabulary

The layout and organization are very good. It’s easy to quickly look up a translation, and the audio clips are extremely useful.

The only issue with this app is that the vocabulary is quite limited. I’m not referring to specialized trade-words; even many very common words are missing. For example, words like “duck” (both noun and verb), “assemble” (e.g. what one would do with IKEA furniture), “deer”, “install”, “squint”, “giggle”, “kick”, and many more are missing.

Thank you very much for your kind review. For the selection of expressions, we rely, among others, on a study by R. Jones and E. Tschirner (2006). Among other things, the authors statistically evaluated one million expressions from the spoken language and listed the most frequent expressions in their book. Of the 3,000 most common ones, «Swiss German» covers about 90%. In addition, we have also included expressions that do not exist in High German or are very different from it, such as «tschutte» «sünnele», «bädele», as well as expressions that are placed further down the Tschirner list. But of course we dream of being able to offer an app one day that contains and explains 5'000 or 10'000 expressions in both directions. We wish you continued fun and success with «Swiss German».

Very Helpful Sound Recordings

While it may only be a sort of dictionary for Swiss German words, I found the sound recordings especially helpful. The greatest difference between Hochdeutsch and Schwyzerdüütsch is the pronunciation, so this is a great resource.

Lifesaver

This is a great app, until now there’s not been a word that I have needed and haven’t been able to find

Love that there’s different spellings and audio

Well made Swiss German-English dictionary

The only critique I have is that all the Swiss German sentences (examples) should have had an accompanying audio, not just the words.

Thumbs way up

I LOVE this app. So worth the money when living in Switzerland and trying to learn the local dialect. Very easy to use and navigate.
Highly recommended

Great app!

I really don’t agree with the previous comment! The dictionary has so much vocabulary and more important it has the pronunciation too. Under each word you have more information of plural changes and how to include the word in a sentence or a question! Great stuff!

Swiss German dictionary

There are very few words in the dictionary. It is not a big enough dictionary to justify the price in my opinion.

Terrible dictionary

This dictionary has the vocabulary of a four-year old. I bought it to do research in the Swiss Federal Archives. Could not locate basic words like aussenwirtschaftsbericht. What a waste of money! Would like a refund.

Hi JayEss21, this dictionary is for translating Swiss German, the dialect spoken in the Swiss German part of Switzerland to English and vice versa. For your purpose you should use a regular High German - English dictionary. Please approach Apple for a refund.
