Top reviews

Does what I need it to do.

Great app.

Real helpfull

I was having trouble setting up my shots, and when i found this app i was very very helpfull

Very useful -- must have if you shoot studio

Fantastic app -- I have used it for years so I can recreate useful lighting.

Awesome

This app is great! I've used this app for several years and it's to document the lighting for every shot. This makes it easier if the team needs to reshoot an object or model.

Needs work

Won't let me rotate items on iPad. If I grab a handle to rotate, it just opens the "copy" feature on iPad.

Waste of $3

There's a single, sample diagram in the app when you install it. There are many diagrams on the Sylights website with download links. Hmm, maybe when I pay $3 to remove ads that will enable downloading of the diagrams into the iPad for review and ideas.

I looked over the website, but didn't see anything about that, so I must have missed something because who would make an app without such obvious functionality.

Apparently, the Sylights creators would. There's no way to get the diagrams into the app. Pretty useless waste of $3 and the app's potential.

Studio Photographer - Very useful App!!

Do you work in a studio and want to record light setup? GET THIS APP! I have payed out many trick lighting setups that I might otherwise forget or just not remember placement of equipment.

For the developers, great job! Plan to contribute. Can you please add flags, v-flats and gobos to the list of tools? A boom icon and light stand would also help. Thank you!

Useful and Intuitive, only one major complaint

I like the app, and find it intuitive and easy to use. So far, I have only one major complaint, the "floor" keeps moving around. There is a zoom function to scale the size of the floor, why does it have to slide around? I find myself sliding the entire image around, when I'm trying to position a single element. This is very annoying. Let the zoom slider do its job, and don't allow the user to reposition the floor without activitating it with a press/hold on the floor, just like the press/hold on an element to select it.

I like some of the other users' suggestions, like adding notes, ala selfhiding sticky notes, that can be attached to each piece of equipment, etc.

Pretty, but not very functional or useful

As a photographer I was excited to try it. And as a photographer I find it confusing , hard to operate quickly, lacking functionality and editing. No space for text and labeling. It has great potential for photographers and filmmakers and was a nice start, but misses the mark in real world abilities. It's limited to people teaching lighting design and maybe that was it simple purpose . I'll be looking for useful updates and it'd be a tool I'd gladly pay for.

Nice, easy and useful app!

Exactly what I was looking for. Just wish I could sign in to account from the app, sync, share/import to/from other users.

Most excellent

I love the annotation capabilities + the ease of manipulating the graphics. The only thing I would like to see in addition is the ability to label items in the images, so that the descriptions in the emails can be matched to specific items. Highly useful app even without that however!

Wow this is one off the best free app ever

Ok I like free apps, but this is one of those great free apps. Yes there are small ads at the bottom ( I would pay a $1 to get rid of them). Like me I take note on all my photo shoots. This helps so much with that.

Perfection!

I've tried several other apps and online programs for creating lighting diagrams. This is the best one I've seen. So many options to customize the diagram. And I love the fact that you can associate image files right within the diagram settings, then email everything (including the detailed descriptions of each element) with one tap.

Other than possibly providing the option to save the diagram and sample photos into the same file, I can't think of anything that would make this app better.

Love it.

Very nicely designed

This is a fantastic app. Would be nice to actually have the lights be on when setting them and power settings. I'd definitely buy this if that was included. Maybe even a 3D view?

Best

I never come back to review an app, but this was the exception. This app is easy to use and has all the features I need! Don't change a dang thing you've got a great thing going.

Useful

Well designed and useful. Hard to complain because it's free, but instead of the pinwheel tool selector, I think it would be better to show more equipment at once so we can work faster without so much dialing around. Additional colors for backgrounds could be nice. Seems like the default rotation for the beauty dish should be facing the other direction (rotate 180). Could be nice to allow notes on the diagram, like additional details for a gobo, distances, power settings, etc. Some more body positions would be useful, like to shoe a model prone.

How that's helpful. Thanks for the app, Cheers!

Really good (and free) app, needs a couple things

As free apps go... This is at the top of the pack. Easy, effective way to plan your shoot.

I only wish it had two things:

1) The ability to make notes; general notes, as well as specific notes about a light or other element in the set up.

2) "Misc Items". When you have a prop or piece of furniture in your shot, it would be nice to be able to place some sort or block or be able to free-hand draw it in. These items will effect the set up.

All in all... Better than the two other major options for Lighting Setups in the app store. Oh yeah... And free. :-)

Only one down side

I do enjoy this software; however, I do wish that it had a three dimensional plan in which we could work as well.

Great teaching App

This is a great addition in the iPad version. I can share with my students in the studio as we work on lighting. It also allows them to create a drawing of how they lit an assignment. Very useful for photography teachers.

Perfect App

I just had to convey how the lights for a shoot I am going to do with a novice partner will layout and this was just an awesome way to epress it. I love this!!
