Bug fixes and feed improvements

Great app… could be better (Updated)

Update: The app creators addressed many of my complaints and the app is doing better already!

This app has the potential to be incredible. It’s so close, but the issue is currently it’s just buggy in a few important places.

The app looks great, there’s lots of options for customization and setting up the research you want to find… only for it to not listen to your suggestions.

The biggest issue I have currently, is simply that the key functions I want to use this app for don’t work well.

The ‘My Journals’ section, which should be based on the journals you have decided to follow, does not function properly. This is disappointing as this was one of the features I was most excited about.

Additionally,
The ‘For You’ feed is horribly difficult to tailor. I have started liking and saving papers that are similar to what I’m looking for, but the app still continues to try to give me papers that are unrelated or are from journals that I have 0 interest in.

There should be a function that allows you to:
1) Refresh your feed, especially after you make changes such as following new journals or liking a series of papers.
2) You should be able to mark papers or journals as ‘not interested’ so that they don’t show up in your feed. My feed is cluttered with journals I have never even heard of and have no interest reading.

Once some of the small issues are addressed, this app will be incredible.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the valuable feedback! We've made several updates to address the points you've made: 1. The My Journals section should now follow desired behavior and show yo only the content from the journals you follow 2. The For You feed logic is improved to take into account your liked and saved papers and refresh faster 3. You can mark papers are Relevant / Not Relevant by swiping left or right on the paper cards We'd be happy to set up a session to work through any other issues and incorporate more of your ideas, if you reach out to ginebra@synapsesocial.com. Also - we'd really appreciate if you update your star review in case we addressed your feedback, as we are trying to grow the app and get the word out.

Impressive research app - helpful

Synapse has been a game changer for how I stay on top of research. The design is clean and the algorithm is solid at bringing up new papers I wasn’t aware of and introducing relevant researchers I didn’t know existed. Check it out
